1. TAIPEI 101

Taipei 101 is formerly known as the Taipei World Financial Center, was the world’s tallest building from 2004 to 2010. An iconic tower which has ravishing architectural in the center and of the most instagrammable places in Taipei, Taiwan. It even has the fastest elevator so you should try that, it goes 90+ stories in just 35 seconds! It is such a beautiful building that allows you to see the nice landscape of Taipei from the top.

The easiest and cheapest way is to take the Ximen MRT Station to Taipei Metro Station which costs a dollar and takes 23 minutes only for the ride. The quickest way is to take a taxi which costs $8-10 USD but will only take you 6 minutes!

2. ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN

Elephant Mountain is also known as Xiangshan Hiking Trail, is the perfect place to see the best views of Taipei. You’ll definitely love to go here especially that it is not a difficult hike.

It will only take you 15-20 minutes to get to the top where you watch the beautiful city views. Just expect a big crowd since many people visit Elephant Mountain as it’s one of the popular Instagram spots in Taipei..

HOW TO GET TO ELEPHANT MOUNTAIN

Just ride the Taipei Metro for $1 USD going to Xiangshan Station. It will take only 7 minutes. Once you arrived, just walk for 10 minutes more to reach Elephant Mountain.

3. NATIONAL CHIANG KAI-SHEK MEMORIAL HALL

It’s located in the heart of Taipei City and has become a popular landmark since then. World famous musicians have already performed at the National Theater and National Concert Hall which is also one of the purposes of the great building.

To get to National Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall you can ride the metro for 11 minutes and it will only cost you $1 USD. Alternatively, you can also ride a taxi for $5-7 USD and it will take 5-7 minutes.

4. SHILIN NIGHT MARKET

This market is one of the largest and most popular night markets in Taiwan. If you are like Rachel who loves shopping, you’ll enjoy this place! There’s a lot of things to buy here, from food, clothes, shoes, and many other stuff. These things are either local or international. It’s just 70 meters away from MRT Jiantan Station so it’s accessible.

5. Longshan Temple

Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch is a modern library built in 2006 inside Beitou Park area which is also popular because of Beitou Hot Spring. It will be closed the first Thursday of the month and on National Holidays.

11. TAROKO NATIONAL PARK

Taroko National Park is also known as ‘The Beautiful Island of Taiwan’, the second largest national park in Taiwan. The national park is absolutely beautiful, splendid and very huge.  The sceneries and landscapes are dramatic, so you must not miss capturing beautiful photos. It is absolutely incredible.

You can’t miss this and worth of lifetime. You should also take the trails. It is a must so you should not miss it if you visit Taiwan since there are so many awesome trails in Taroko, if you want to explore all the trails, you should spend at least 2 days there!

HOW TO GET TO TAROKO NATIONAL PARK

Take the Ximen MRT Station to Taipei Main Station which will cost you $1 and takes about 3 minutes. From Taipei Main Station board a railway train to Hualien Railway Station. The fare is $10 to $15 USD and takes about 3 hours depending on type of train. Then, hire a cab to go to Taroko Gorge.

HOW TO GET TO RAINBOW VILLAGE IN NANTUN DISTRICT

To reach Rainbow Village, you can ride a train going to Taichung. The ride takes approximately 1 hour and costs $21-25 USD. From HSR Taichung Station, ride a bus going to the Rainbow village. It will take 12 minutes and costs $1-2 USD.

13. JIUFEN OLD STREET

HOW TO GET TO JIUFEN OLD STREET

From Taipei, ride the train going to Ruifang station. The 1-hour train ride will cost you $1-3 USD. Once you arrived in Ruifang Station, have an 11-minute bus ride going to Jiufen which costs $1-2 USD. Finally, you have to walk for at least 7 minutes to reach the Old Street of Jiufen.

14. Wen Wu Temple

Wen Wu Temple is a beautiful spot to visit around Taipei. We were visiting temples and watching the amazing views of the division of the Lake between Sun and Moon.

We went there for the sunset we went to Wen Wu Temple which was our favorite stop of the day. From here we went back to Taipei Main Station and this time it took us less than 3 hours since we found less traffic.

15. SUN MOON LAKE

Sun Moon Lake is considered to be the largest body of water in Taiwan found in Nantou County. The area surrounding Sun Moon Lake is where the Thao Tribe lives, one of the aboriginal tribes in Taiwan. This lake surrounds the tiny island Lalu. It is known that the east side of the lake resembles a sun while the west resembles a moon.

16. Pingxi District

Pingxi District is a rural area in New Taipei and it’s becoming popular because of the train pass and the Lantern Festival. We visited Pingxi to learn how to make a lantern and fly them. It was a cool experience and you can see a few pictures below.

People are flying the lanterns in Pingxi Old Street and you have to stop when the train is coming. The town is so beautiful and we really loved the vibe there.

17. HUALIEN

Hualien is a nice place to explore around and experience the local vibes. It’s only an hour away from Taroko National park. You can visit the beaches and you can even do dolphin and whale watching.

18. Golden Waterfall

Golden Waterfall is located near Jiufen in Ruifang District. It’s a nice place to stop before getting Jiufen and taking pictures. You can also hike around the area and explore. It can be quite busy since Jiufen is one of the most instagrammable places in Taipei and many visitors go there!

19. WULAI

Wulai is a mountainous district on the southern part of New Taipei City. You have to visit The Wulai Atayal Museum which traces the history of indigenous Atayal people, ride the cable car that runs up to the majestic Wulai Waterfall, swim in its hot springs and pools by the Nanshi River, and appreciate nature at Neidong Forest Recreation Area.

20. BA YAN WILD HOTSPRINGS IN YANGMINGSHAN NATIONAL PARK

The last but not the least, don’t forget to visit Yangmingshan National Park. It is one of the 9 national parks in Taiwan, located between Taipei and New Taipei City. Since it’s already in Taipei, it’s very accessible and you can do a lot of things here aside from taking Instagrammable pictures.

There are mountains here, as well as volcanic geography and hot springs, making it a summer destination for both locals and tourists. It’s truly a beautiful urban garden that you can go to if you want to experience nature even in the city!

One of the hot spring here is the Ba Yan Ye Xi Hot Spring, a hidden wild hot spring in Yangmingshan National Park. You can take a dip here and relax. Just wear a proper swimming attire and expect it to be busy especially on the weekends.

HOW TO GET TO YANGMINGSHAN NATIONAL PARK

Riding a bus to get to Lengshuikeng from Jiantan Station in Taipei will take you 40 minutes and cost you $1 USD. From Lengshuikeng, walk for 4 minutes to reach Yangmingshan National Park. Alternatively, you can also take a taxi ride for $19-23 USD. It’s faster and will only take 20 minutes.

We have to say that for us was the best way to travel around Taipei since you just put a load and you can use in MRT and buses. Plus you can use for buying in 7 Eleven and convenience stores in the country. So it’s pretty convenient.

You can purchase in convenience stores. Also available in the airport you will pay 100 TWD which is $3 USD non-refundable. It’s comfortable and every time that you use your Easy Card you get 15% discounts in your MRT and bus trips. You can recharge in convenience stores or in MRT Stations.

You can use that money to buy in convenience stores in Taiwan. It’s great since there are Family Mart 7 Eleven all over Kaohsiung and Taiwan.
