How to get from Taipei to Hualien By Train And Bus

Taipei to Hualien distance is 160 kilometers distance. There are many ways to get from Taipei to Hualien by train is the easiest. You can also get a bus and train, you can get a shuttle bus, you can do a day tour, by motorbike and even taxi or Uber.

Taipei to Hualien Flight

If you want to get from Taipei to Hualien by flight. There are flights leaving from Taipei Songshan airport getting to Hualien airport. The travel time Taipei to Hualien by flight is only 50 minutes and the flight company operating is Uni Air. Prices are around 1000 TWD for one way.

There are two daily flights leaving from Taipei Songshan airport to Hualien at 7 10 am and 7 25 pm.

Taipei City to Songshan Airport

If you want to get from Taipei city to Songshan Airport by taxi or Grab will cost you around 300 TWD. It can be cheaper if you get the MRT Brown line or regular buses going from Taipei to Songshan Airport.

There are buses going from Taoyuan International Airport to Taipei Songshan Airport. Just in case you have to commute. Remember the flights are leaving from Songshan iarport and not from Taoyuan airport.

Hualien Airport to Hualien City

If you want to get from Hualien airport to Hualien city. The distance from Hualien Airport to city is around 6 kilometers. A taxi or Uber can cost you around 300 TWD. It can be cheaper if you can take a local bus from Hualien airport to city.

How to get from Taipei to Hualien by Bus

If you want to go from Taipei to Hualien by bus. First you have to take a local bus from Taipei to Loudong and later to commute to a train Loudong to Hualien.

The Capital bus 1570 leaves at Taipei City Hall Station and Kamalan Bus 1915 from Q Square Mall 4th floor next to Taipei Main station. It will take 1 hour and 15 minutes and bus price from Taipei to Loudong is 120-140 TWD.

You have two options once in Loudong. The train from Loudong to Hualien will take 1 hour and 30 minutes and you have to add the waiting time. Or you can get a bus transfer from Loudong to Hualien with Klook for 170 TWD.

Shuttle Bus Taipei to Hualien

There are shuttle buses from Nangang District to Hualien leaving every 20-40 minutes starting at 5 45 am and last bus leaving at 10 45 pm. The journey will take around 3 hours.

Prices are around 300 TWD so it can be the best option if you are staying around Nangang District in Taipei. Or you can get regular buses to get Nangan District.

Taipei to Hualien By Train

If you want to get from Taipei to Hualien by train. It will be the easiest way by Express train and the travel time Taipei to Hualien will be around 2 hours. There isn’t High Speed train from Taipei to Hualien yet.

You can get Taroko Express and Puyuma Express to reach Hualien. Train ticket prices are around 440 TWD which is $10-15 USD. The train tickets online are sold one month in advance. If you wait too much for buying them you will have the risk of not having the Express train. So you will have to choose between bus and local train or local train from Taipei to Hualien.

If you want to get from Taipei to Hualien by slow train will take 3-4 hours. There are two companies going there Tze Chiang Limited Express and Chu Kuang Express. Prices of local train tickets are around 350-440 TWD.

Taipei to Hualien by Taxi or Uber

If you want to get from Taipei to Hualien by taxi or Uber prices are around 3000-4000 TWD. The total travel time by taxi from Taipei to Hualien will be 3-4 hours depending on the traffic.

This option can be great if you are traveling with a few people or you are carrying so much luggage.

Day Tour from Taipei to Hualien

If you don’t have so much time in your Taiwan itinerary you can do a day tour from Taipei to Hualien. Prices are high but you will enjoy the comfort and you will safe time. You will be able to stop and enjoy the amazing views on the road and having a local guide.

Taipei to Hualien by Motorbike

If you like driving motorbike and you aren’t bringing so much luggage. You can go from Taipei to Hualien by motorbike. It will take around 4 hours and the views are so impressive.

If you choose this option you will be able to visit on your own Taroko National Park with your motorbike.

What to do in Hualien

TAROKO NATIONAL PARK

It’s a must visiting Taroko National Park. You can see amazing landscapes and waterfalls and it was one of my favorite Taiwan tourist spots. How to visit Taroko National Park? It’s easy and it’s actually for free. You can rent a motorbike and drive you around Taroko National Park.

You will enjoy spending your day in Taroko National Park. If you don’t like riding a motorbike, you can join guided tours around Taroko National Park. You can also get a bus ticket to go around Taroko 1-3 days.

HUALIEN

If you visit Taroko National Park, we recommend you to stay a couple of nights in Hualien to explore around and experience the local vibes. It’s only an hour away from Taroko National park. You can visit the beaches and you can even do dolphin and whale watching.
