Tainan is the oldest city in Taiwan. It’s been 200 year Taiwan’s capital in their history. We will write in this blog post how to get from Taipei to Tainan by train, bus and private transportation.

Taipei to Tainan
HOW TO GET FROM TAIPEI TO TAINAN BY BUS
If you want to get from Taipei to Tainan by bus. Prices are around 450-600 TWD for 4-5 hours journey. The bus stations are close to city center in Tainan and Taipei. Buses are leaving every 30 minutes.
So if you go on a budget it can be the best option. There is WIFI that will allow you to catch up with work or just watching a movie.
HOW TO GET FROM TAIPEI TO TAINAN BY TRAIN

TAINAN TO TAIPEI HIGH SPEED TRAIN
If you want to get from Taipei to Tainan by train. The high speed train can costs around 1400 TWD for 1 hour 45 minutes. And High Speed station are usually outside city center.
So you will have to get a train to get to the city center in Tainan and Taipei. But no worries the communication is great. Trains are leaving every 20-30 minutes.

TAPEI TO TAINAN TAIWAN RAILWAYS
If you want to get from Taipei to Tainan by train. Taiwan Railways will cost you around 600 TWD for 4 hours journey. As we mentioned before Taiwan Railways station are usually close to city center. Trains are running every 30 minutes.
So you will be able to go walking distance or a bus ride to your accommodation in Tainan and Taipei.

HOW TO GET FROM HIGH SPEED TO TAINAN CITY CENTER

If you want to get to Tainan City center from High Speed Train Station. There are a few ways. There is a free shuttle going to city center. You can go by train for 25 TWD. If you prefer comfort you can go by taxi around 400 TWD.
If you want to get to Tainan city center from Bus Station and Taiwan Railways to city center is only 2 kilometers distance. It can be around 100 TWD by taxi. And you can get by bus 20 TWD.
You can use Easy Card for getting around Tainan by bus as we did in our trip. If you want to get around by bus in Tainan bus frequency is around 30 minutes. So be ready to wait for it!
HOW TO GET FROM TAIPEI TO TAINAN BY CAR
If you want to get from Taipei to Tainan by private transportation will be the most comfortable way. There are 320 kilometers and it can take 3 hours and a half driving by car. This option is great if you are renting a car or if you are renting a van traveling in a group.
WHERE TO STAY IN TAINAN
SILKS PLACE

We stayed at Silks Place in Tainan. We enjoyed a local atmosphere learning about the tea. Trying local food which was delicious. Also we enjoyed Robbin’s Steak Teppanyaki where we enjoyed dinner with our own private chef. The food was delicious great meat, salad and delicious desserts.
