BEST TIME TO VISIT MANDALAY

When you are visiting Myanmar you should know about the weather. The weather is really hot in Myanmar. There are two seasons in Myanmar for the weather, dry and wet season. Dry season is from October to May being November and December the coldest months in Myanmar.

And wet season from May to early October being May and June the hottest months in Myanmar. It means the best time to visit Mandalay is from October to February when the weather is nicer and not rainy.

How to get from Yangon to Mandalay

How to get from Yangon to Mandalay by Flight

If you want to get from Yangon to Mandalay by plane. It will be the most comfortable way to get from Yangon to Mandalay. It will take 1 hour and the prices are around $100 USD one way.

You will also have to spend around one hour to get to the airport in Yangon and another hour in Mandalay to get to your hotel.

If you want to get from Yangon to Mandalay by bus. This is the most usual way for travelers going from Yangon to Mandalay. Since is the most affordable getting a night bus you will also save one night of accommodation in Myanmar.

Yangon to Mandalay Bus Schedule

Buses are leaving around 8 pm from Yangon to 10 pm getting to Mandalay around 6 am.The price of the bus is around $15-20 USD. There are local buses and VIP buses. You will get water, snacks and blanket.

AUNG MINGALAR HIGHWAY BUS STATION YANGON

In Yangon the bus station is 15 kilometers far away from city center in the North near the airport. It’s called Aung Mingalar Highway Bus Station. You can get to Aung Mingalar Bus Station by public bus from city center only for 200 Kyats in bus number 36 yellow color.

Also you can get a shared taxi from Sule Pagoda for 1000 Kyats. For more comfort you can go by Grab and taxi and prices will go around 10000 Kyats. By bus from city center can take 1 hour and 30 minutes and they are usually crowded. We decided to go by bus since it was cheaper than Grab and Taxi.

The buses are getting to Mandalay Kywel Sel Kan Bus Station is located 10 kilometers far from city center. Taxis going from Kywel Sel Kan Bus Station to city center in Mandalay can cost around $10-12 USD.

If you want to get from Yangon to Mandalay by train. The main problem with the train from Yangon to Mandalay is 15 hours journey.

Yangon to Mandalay Train Schedule

The schedule of the train leaving Yangon at 5 pm to 8 am getting to Mandalay. Prices are going from $15-30 USD depending if you choose economy class or first class.

To book the train tickets in advance can be challenging. It’s better ask for help to your accommodation. They can print the tickets for you or book in advance and you will get the tickets in the train station.

Yangon to Mandalay Distance

Yangon to Mandalay distance is 630 kilometers. It can take around 8 hours by car. The roads are in good conditions and there isn’t so much traffic.

Yangon to Mandalay by Private Car

If you want to go from Yangon to Mandalay with a private car it will be around $150 USD for 8 hours journey. It will be the best option if you are traveling in a group or you have so much luggage.

You have to rent a car with a private driver since its not allowed to rent a car on your own for tourists in Myanmar. The roads are in perfect condition and I did on my own by car hitchhiking in my first visit in Myanmar.
