The cheapest way from Lima Airport to Huacachina is by bus. There is no direct bus from Lima Airport to Huacachina. You will have to get the bus from Lima airport to Miraflores at Javier Prado. Once in Javier Prado you will have to get a bus going from Lima to Huacachina.

The Buses and vans from Lima airport to Miraflores are running every 15-30 minutes when they are full during the daytime. You will have to go outside the airport to get them and make sure that you don’t have so much luggage.

The travel time from Lima airport to Miraflores by bus is 50-60 minutes. Once in Miraflores, you can get the bus from Lima to Huacachina which is stopping in Ica first.

The bus schedule from Lima to Ica is running every 30-60 minutes starting from 5 am to 9 pm. Cruz del Sur buses are going from Lima to Ica leaving from Miraflores at Javier Prado.

It takes 10 minutes travel time from Ica to Huacachina and the taxi fare is 10-15 PEN which is $3-4 USD. There are tuk tuks and taxis but there is no public transportation from Ica to Huacachina.

If you want to go from Lima to Huacachina on a day tour as we did. The travel time from Lima to Huacachina by car is 4 hours and you can do stops half of the way for a snack, coffee or just to stretch your legs.

Once you are getting to Ica you will be able to join to a Pisco Tour where they will explain how it is made in the old time and nowadays. The best thing that the Pisco Tour includes Pisco tasting.

After the Pisco Tour you will visit a local restaurant for lunch and do the main activities in Huacachina sandboarding, buggy thru the dunes and enjoying the sunset we will explain in more detail below.

The best way from Lima airport to Huacachina if you are on a budget (especially alone) would be by local bus for $1 USD from Lima airport to Miraflores. And get local bus from Javier Prado Bus Terminal in Miraflores to Ica for $14-16 USD you can book online. The total bus fare plus taxi from Lima airport to Huacachina is around $20 USD and 6-7 hours travel time.

If you want more comfort or you are traveling with more people you can join a day tour and you will enjoy an amazing experience with a guide without worrying of transfers and with all the activities organized for them.

WHAT TO DO IN HUACACHINA

The best things to do in Huacachina is enjoying the oasis which is a magical place. At sunset is the best time to go thru the desert by buggy to enjoy the sunset. While waiting for the sunset you will enjoy the buggy rides thru the dunes and the sandboarding.

SANDBOARDING

Sanboarding is the coolest attraction in Huacachina. When going thru the desert by buggy they will bring the sand boards. You can do sandboarding at least three times. It’s fun and our little one Han with 9 years old he liked it so much. It’s easy and the guides will help you and tell you how to do it.

BUGGY IN HUACACHINA

My favorite part of the tour was the buggy ride in Huacachina. The driver will go up and down thru the dunes and it’s so incredible the experience with people screaming in the car haha! Not dangerous since the drives are amazing and doing every day this buggy experience.

SUNSET AT HUACACHINA

The sunsets at Huacachina are so magical. The colors are amazing and you will be able to stop in the point of view before and during the sunset to take nice pictures of the desert if you are interested in taking pictures. If not just walk around and enjoy the beautiful views.

HUACACHINA OASIS

The Oasis in Huacachina is so peaceful for relaxing. You can even rent a boat to go around. Or just go for a beer and enjoy food in a restaurant with views to the Oasis. There are places where you can sunbathe and relax while reading.

PISCO TOUR IN ICA AND HUACACHINA

We did a Pisco Tour in a very beautiful Hacienda. The Pisco is the national drink in Peru and it’s a must to learn about this as we did with the coffee in Colombia. The tour is interesting and they will tell you the kind of grapes that they use for Pisco and how they ferment step by step.

The Pisco Tour includes Pisco tasting and you can see how are the differences when the Pisco is mixed with fruits and different flavors and Pisco on its own was my favorite own.

Apart from learning about the Pisco there are activities like riding horses in the Hacienda. You can also stay overnight and enjoy swimming in the pool. There is also a restaurant if you want to have lunch with views to the horses.

ATMS AND CASH IN HUACACHINA

The official currency of Peru is called Peruvian Sol (PEN). And $1 USD=3.75 PEN. ATMs and exchange office are available all throughout Ica but just a few in Huacachina.
