How To Get From Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Center

Kuala Lumpur Airport also called KLIA is located 60 kilometers far from KL Sentral. There are two separate Terminals: KLIA and KLIA2 just a few kilometers and connected by a rail system for 3 minutes and 50 cents of USD and a free shuttle.

By Bus From Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Center (Cheapest Way)

The cheapest way to get from Kuala Lumpur to city is by bus and it’s the one that I usually choose. The buses are running every 30 minutes starting from 5 30 am to 2 45 am last one.

The bus fare from Kuala Lumpur to city center is only 12 RM which is $3 USD you can book online. The bus travel time from Kuala Lumpur Airport to city center is around 1 hour.

You can buy the tickets in the airport at the Ground Floor where the buses depart. The bus is quite comfortable that’s why is my favorite option since it will allow you to save a few $$.

There are a few companies Airport Coach and Sky Bus and prices go from 12-15 RM. At Terminal 2 (KLIA2) the buses are located in level 2. Buses are located in Terminal 1 (KLIA) on the ground floor.

Most of the buses for 12 RM are going from Kuala Lumpur to KL Sentral. Buses are going from Kuala Lumpur Airport to Chinatown at 15 RM which is $4 USD.

Train from KLIA to KL Sentral (Fastest Way)

The fastest way from Kuala Lumpur airport to city center is by train. The train travel time from Kuala Lumpur Airport to KL Sentral is 28 minutes.

The train from Kuala Lumpur airport to city center fare is $12 USD (cheaper if you book online) which is 55 RM for one way and 100 RM for a round ticket valid for 30 days. The train is so modern and comfortable.

The first train departure from Kuala Lumpur airport to KL Sentral is at 5 30 am and last one at 1 am. On the way back from KL Sentral to Kuala Lumpur Airport first train departs at 5 am and last one at 12 20 am. The train departs every 15-20 minutes. Check here KL Express schedule!

Once in KL Sentral you will be able to connect with MRT in Kuala Lumpur with different destinations. If you prefer you can take a taxi or Grab which is so affordable to move around Kuala Lumpur.

There are two trains KL Express and KL Transit. KL Express is faster since it stops less times. KL Transit will take a few minutes more since it has a few more stops.

By Taxi And Grab From Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Center (Best Way)

If you want to go from Kuala Lumpur Airport to city center by taxi can be a great option if you are traveling with a few people. The taxi fare from Kuala Lumpur to City center is around 80-100 RM which is around $20-25 USD. We chose this way last time since there were 4 of us.

The taxi travel time from Kuala Lumpur airport to city center will be around 45 minutes and instead going to KL Sentral you can go to your final destination Airbnb or hotel. So it will save local transportation and time. Taxi system is well organized in Kuala Lumpur Airport.

Best way from Kuala Lumpur Airport to City Center (KL Airport to KL Sentral)

The best way from Kuala Lumpur to city center is by bus for $3 USD you can book online if you go on a budget since you will save a few dollars compared with KL Train for $12 USD per person but it will take longer.

You need to know if taking the KL Express train is the faster way from Kuala Lumpur airport to city center (you can book online) but you will have to commute by taxi, Grab, train or a local bus to your final destination if you go to Chinatown or Bukit Bintang.

If you are traveling 3-4 people is worth it to take a taxi, private transfer or Grab since is around $20 USD and you will get to your hotel faster. And you will save the transportation from Kl Sentral to your hotel.

Must Visit At Kuala Lumpur

BATU CAVES

Batu Caves is located 13 kilometers North in Kuala Lumpur. Batu Caves is a Hindu temple that became popular a couple of years ago when they painted their stairs with so many colors.

The Batu Caves is a Hindu temple outside the city. You have to go there by train or by bus. There is a long flight of stairs that you need to take to reach the temple.

You can go there to get some quiet and observe the architecture and the local people visiting. It is only during festivals when the area becomes noisy and populated.

TWIN TOWERS

This is one of the tallest buildings in the world. The place is very busy and full of tourists. If you are patient, you can get a decent picture. We recommend you to go late in the afternoon.

You can get pictures at day time and also at night, with the lights. There is a show at 7:30 pm in the fountain with music and lights. We personally like the night scene with Twin Towers because of the show, and the beautiful lights surrounding the area.

THEAN HOU TEMPLE

Thean Hou Temple is a beautiful Chinese temple outside Kuala Lumpur. It can be busy during the weekends because of the weddings. It’s super clean and colorful. If you visit first thing in the morning in a weekday you will not find so many people. It’s a new temple and it has only been 30 years. There is no entrance fee so you can’t miss it in Kuala Lumpur.
