Seasons in Poland

Poland has four seasons, just like all countries in Europe. It’s important that you know when you wanna travel to Poland, because this will help you plan your itinerary and of course what to wear and what to pack when traveling in the country.

Summer, and the touristic time in Poland, happens in late May-June through August. Temperatures can go from 2–25 degrees Celcius, so pretty good sun during this time. If you like a much cooler weather, Autumn kicks in with a moderately warm temperature from September to October, while November comes usually with rains and lower temperatures. Winter is cold and cloudy, and can bring snowstorms. Temperature in January is about -4’C, on an average, but it can fall as low as -35’C. Spring brings sunny days and sometimes rain and light frost around March.

Poland’s temperature can change not only with the seasons, but also with the geographical location – the distance of an area from the Baltic Sea, and depending on height above sea level. The are of Poland you’re visiting and its proximity to the sea can make a huge difference in temperatures in the summer, and it can easily be lower than rest of the country.

Silesian Lowland and Sandomierska Upland are the warmest areas of Poland, while the north-eastern edge of the country in Suwalki is the coldest. The average annual temperature is about 6-8 degrees Celsius. The hottest month in Poland is July, so if you wanna be in the cooler area this time of the year, you’ll have to be in the mountains.

Best Time to Visit Poland

Summertime is always the most touristy time anywhere in Europe. Sun is high, and it is when most people are given less time to be in the office so they can spend more time outside. If you want to avoid this, the best times to visit Poland are  May-June and September-October. These months are still warm, while the number of tourists will be longer.

What clothes to wear when in Poland? Lightweights are recommended in summer months while medium to heavy weights are advised in winter. Waterproofing is necessary throughout the year.

Layering – now this is your friend when you are traveling in Poland, or anywhere with a huge chance of changing seasons.

A good base layer is always good, and knowing the season you’re traveling in, and getting advanced information on the weather as you make your traveling plans will help a lot in knowing what to pack.

Even in summer, afternoons and evenings can get a little chilly so it would be best to wear layers – a nice shirt, with a jacket is a good combination, and you can remove the jacket if it gets a little warmer, and wear it again if it starts to feel colder for you.

Depending on places you’ll be traveling in, you might be doing a lot of walking, so very comfortable shoes are important. If you’re traveling during rainy or winter/cold weather, the appropriate boots will be essential because the ground can easily get icy and slippery so having the right boots with the right spaces are important. These must be partnered with the right socks too to protect yourself from blisters.

For gears, an umbrella is always useful. For colder weather, thicker jackets, scarves, gloves, and hats are all good and essential.

Traveling in a country like Poland would be more fun if you’re going out and about with the right clothes, and the right gear. So be prepared and check the season and weather in advance so you can stay prepared and have more fun in your trip.

Keep your body hydrated! Instead of expecting to buy multiple water bottles for the duration of your trip, try to have a water bottle handy with you at all times so you can keep yourself hydrated and also be mindful of waste. It doesn’t matter if you’re traveling during warmer or colder weather, hydration is serious and important, so make sure to have your bottles ready!

A day bag will also be good to have, to bring with you on some activities, whatever the weather you’re visiting in. In any trip, we suggest to keep your valuables – money, credit cards, passports, identification cards, and other valuables in secure containers to avoid any theft — a general rule for any travel.

WHAT TO WEAR IN POLAND: BAGS, CONTAINERS, LUGGAGE

What to wear in Poland talking about bags and luggage, depending on how long you’re planning to stay in Poland, a small hand luggage or small suitcase should be enough. This, a day bag, packing cubes, and water proof protectors (for rainy weather) are all you’ll need.

What are packing cubes you say? One of the biggest packing hack that we swear by is dividing your luggage in packing cubes so you can go from packing to unpacking, to packing again in no time. Usually, what we do is have a bigger packing cube for clothes, and casual outer wear. A separate one for underwear and swimwear. A separate packing cube for gadgets and devices (make sure that these are actually in water proof containers), and a separate packing cube for toiletries and makeup.

MEDICINE KITS AND OTHER EXTRAS

In addition to sunblocks, lotions, lip balms, moisturizers, heat protectants, and tanning products, emergency supplies will always come in handy. Medicines, vitamins, and essentials are always good to have in any trip, too.

WHAT TO PACK FOR POLAND IF YOU’RE A CONTENT CREATOR

Water proof bags are definitely a must in the rainy weather. Don’t forget your underwater or water proof cameras if you’re planning to do a lot of shooting in the water!

For Poland there are two associated plug types, types C and E. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type E is the plug which has two round pins and a hole for the socket’s male earthing pin. Poland operates on a 230V supply voltage and 50Hz.

When you are staying in high end resorts you will most likely have the best toiletries available, but just prepare any special products and knick knacks that you always want to have with you. Have your perfumes, deodorizers.

For the women, since a lot of the time will be spent in water, and lighter and thinner clothing, check if the trip will come during your time of the month. You don’t want to not be ready or to be stressed of having the special products you want to have during your special week, so have your feminine products with you.

Pair of comfortable pants and shirts / blouses – These will be good base layers under jackets, and layering is the top most important thing when traveling in Poland. Good base layers will help you during summer, and having a jacket ready will help you if weather becomes chillier or colder.

A pair (or two) of comfortable foot wear – A good pair of sneakers is important, something that can help you survive all the walking you’ll need to do when you are in Poland.

A pair of the appropriate boots, with the right soles – If you are traveling during rainy weather or during winter, then wearing the proper boots will be very important to avoid accidents, and to make sure you’ll be comfortable walking around and traveling in these weather.

3-4 pairs of socks – You’ll need to prepare socks with the appropriate length that will match your shoes to avoid bruising and to keep your feet comfortable depending on the weather when you plan to visit Poland

2 pairs of Swimwear or Swimsuits – if you’re visiting somewhere you can swim, sure you can have these!

Travel adapters – Poland follows the Standard US plug types, and there are two types – A and B. Plug A which has two parallel pins, and Plug B which has 2 parallel pins and a grounding pin. Make sure that you are plugging in the right voltage 110 or 220 when you are in Poland.
