1. Batu Caves

Batu Caves is located 13 kilometers North in Kuala Lumpur. Batu Caves is a Hindu temple which became popular a couple of years ago when they painted their stairs with so many colors.

The Batu Caves is a Hindu temple outside the city. You have to go there by train or by bus. Traveling by local transportation is always good, as it’s great to mix with local people while you’re traveling in their country. There are trains where only women are allowed to sit.

There is a long flight of stairs that you need to take to reach the temple. You can go there to get some quiet and observe the architecture and the local people visiting. It is only during festivals when the area becomes noisy and populated.

How to get to Batu Caves

You can go by train from KL Sentral. It will take just 30 minutes to reach there. And it costs less than $1 USD one way. If you prefer going by Grab it will take you 20 minutes to get there and it will cost $5-6 USD. It can be a great option if you are traveling with a few people especially if you want to get early morning.

2. Twin Towers

This is one of the tallest buildings in the world. The place is very busy and full of tourists. If you are patient, you can get a decent picture. We recommend you to go late in the afternoon. You can get pictures at day time and also at night, with the lights.

There is a show at 7:30 pm in the fountain with music and lights. We personally like the night scene with Twin Towers because of the show, and the beautiful lights surrounding the area.

How to get to Twin Towers

You can reach by bus, taxi and by foot. You will never get lost since you can always see the Petronas Towers and everyone knows them!

3. Putrajaya Mosque

You will have to head it to Putrajaya which is one hour away from Kuala Lumpur to witness this beautiful pink mosque. It is also near a man-made lake called Putrajaya Lake. There are few clothing conditions that must be met in order to enter the mosque but there are cape rentals available without a fee. Also, there is no entrance fee needed. If you feel hungry, there is a place for eating in the lower ground of the mosque. 

Travel Tip: Avoid the praying time since is quite busy!

How to get to Putrajaya Mosque

Putrajaya is located one hour drive outside the city. You can go by train from KL Sentral to Putrajaya and it will take 40 minutes to reach there.

4. Forest Eco Park

Forest Eco Park is a great place to unwind and just involve yourself in nature. Bring water and an umbrella, it’s better to expect the hot weather. There is no entrance fee for everyone. And it’s one of the most popular instagrammable places in Kuala Lumpur.

How to get to Forest Eco Park

You can ride the LRT on Kelana Jaya line and get off at Masjid Jamek station and from there you can walk a little to the entrance

5. Trader’s Hotel Bar

You can get a great view of the twin towers during the day the bar is quiet and in the evening is busier. It’s just a few minutes walking distance from Petronas Towers.

There is no entrance fee just buy a drink and enjoy the views. If you want to have dinner or lunch maybe you have to book in advance. Prices are little bit expensive expect to pay $5-6 USD for a drink but the views are awesome.

How to get to Trader’s Hotel

You just go 5 minutes walking distance from Twin Towers crossing the Park you will see Trader’s Hotel. You have to get the elevator to the bar where you can get the great views of the towers.

6. Thean Hou Temple

Thean Hou Temple is a beautiful Chinese temple outside Kuala Lumpur. It can be busy during the weekends because of the weddings. It’s super clean and colorful. If you visit first thing in the morning in a week day you will not find so many people. It’s a new temple and it has only 30 years. There is no entrance fee so you cant miss it in Kuala Lumpur.

Travel Tip: Avoid the weekends is busy with the weddings.

How to get to Thean Hou Temple

We decided to visit this temple by riding a Grab after Batu Caves. It took us 20 minutes and prices were affordable. You can also get the train stopping in Bangsar. It will take less than 20 minutes and you will have to walk 15 minutes to reach Thean Hou temple.

7. Federal Territory Mosque

Federal Territory Mosque is a large beautiful mosque with styled interiors and tall columns. Robes and headscarves are available for guests that would want to go in and visit the beautiful interior. 

Travel Tip: Avoid the praying time since is quite busy!

How to get to Federal Territory Mosque

The easiest way to get to the mosque is getting first by train to Pasar Seni. Once in Pasar Seni ride the bus 851. It takes 30 minutes bus ride from Pasar Seni.

8. Jalan Alor Market

If you’re craving for food and you don’t even know what to eat, Jalan Alor Market will help you decide. The whole street is filled with food stalls that you can not possibly enjoy in just a day. Try to go here often and eat differently. The prices of food here are affordable. Try every dish as much as you can! 

How to get to Jalan Alor Market

Jalan Alor Market is located in Bukit Bintang Area and it has easy access. If you are coming from Twin Towers you will have to walk 20 minutes. There are buses going there or you can get a Grab if you don’t feel walking. Best time to visit the market is at night for dinner!

9. Sri Mahamariamman Temple

Even being the oldest Hindu temple, Sri Mahamariamman Temple is still beautiful in its own way. The interior is very colorful and well maintained. It’s very picturesque and one of the most popular instagramamble places in Kuala Lumpur.

How to get to Sri Mahamariamman Temple

To go here, you can go to Kelana Jaya line LRT and ride the LRT and get off Pasar Seni LRT station. You can walk from there to the Sri Mahamariamman Temple. It’s located clsoe to the Central Market area.

10. Bukit Tabur

If you’re in for some hiking, you might want to hike Bukit Tabur. The views from the top of Bukit Tabur are stunning. Try to hike with a partner you know or a local, as it isn’t an easy hike. It is a hike that will have you breathing hard but it is worth it. A permit might be needed but in most cases, you’ll get by without one.

To get to Bukit Tabur from Kl Sentral you have to ride the train to Jelatek. And from Jelatek you have to catch Bus 220 until Gerai Nasi Lemak.

11. Lake Gardens

A place good for families, Lake Gardens allows you to breathe fresh air amidst the city. The place is very serene but fun at the same time. There are no entrance fees to the park itself but attractions and places inside the park may have some.

How to get to Lake Gardens

You can go walking from the city, get Grab or taking local bus going close to the area and walking to get to Lake Gardens.

12. Merdeka Square

Located in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building, Merdeka Square or Dataran Merdeka is a plain beautifully maintained green field that was a place of historical value. Merdeka Square was the place where Malaysia declared its freedom. It’s fun to chill out and just relax at the field with your friends.

13. Astaka Morocco

Astaka Morocco will surely blow you away with its beautiful and intricate architecture. Look closely and appreciate every columns, corners, walls, and ceiling. There are careful details that were surely a product of hard work by the designers and builders. You’d only need to pay RM3 to access some parts of the Pavilion.

Astaka Morocco is located outside the city in Putrajaya and you will ahve to follow same steps that we emntioned above. From KL Sentral ride the train to Putrajaya. Once in Putrajaya you can walk around, get a bus or using Grab for more comfort.

14. Titiwangsa Park

Located near Jalan Tun Razak in the middle of Kuala Lumpur, Titiwangsa Park is a recreational park for the public. It serves the public with its facilities like jogging tracks, aqua biking, canoeing and other more. There are also food stalls around the area if you’re feeling hungry after a jog. You could also visit the National Theatre and National Art Gallery as it is near the park.

How to get to Titiwangsa Park

The easiest way to get to Titiwangsa Park is by Grab. If you prefer cheaper you can grab a bus and combining walking to get there from the city depending which part you are coming from.
