How to get to Omadhoo Island by Speedboat
Speed boat costs $25 per person per way and takes 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach. It’s leaving Male 4 pm everyday from the ferry port except Fridays. The schedule can be changed and the best way is to contact your guesthouse in Omadhoo Island and they will organize for you.
We took the speed boat from Omadhoo Island to Male ferry port. It was leaving at 7 am and 10 am. There is wifi in the boat. But at the time that we rode the speed boat it was raining and windy and the trip was little bit hard.
How to get to Omadhoo Island by Public Boat
Public ferry costs less than $4 per person 53 Rufiyaas per way and takes 5 hours to reach Omadhoo Island from Male. Public ferry leaves from Male to Omadhoo at 9 am on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.
And the public ferry leaves from Omadhoo to Male at 910 am on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
How to get to Omadhoo Island from the airport
If you are coming from the airport. First to go to Male you can take a public ferry for less than $1 only 10 Rufiyaas (10 minutes) or taxi ($6.5 for 4 people) to Male.

ATM In Omadhoo Island
There is no ATM in Omadhoo island so make sure you bring cash from Male. Local currency and USD are accepted. You can pay with credit card in most of the guesthouses. If you eat in your guesthouse and you organize day trips ith them as we did you will not have that problem. We stayed at Nemo Inn and we will give more information below.
Visa and Currency in Maldives
Maldives is Visa-friendly. You will get 30 days free visa when landing in Maldives. You just get a stamp and you’re good to go!
The official currency in the country is the Maldivian Rufiyaa and the exchange rate is around $1=15.4 Rufiyaas. Click here to know the exact exchange rate before you visit.
Wifi and Internet Connection in Omadhoo Island

Daily Budget Travel in Omadhoo Island
You can get snacks for 2-3 RFY ($1=15.4 RFY). It´s very common for locals to have tea with these snacks. You can have rice with fish curry for 25 RFY where they will give you a kind of chips for free, perfect for sharing the food.
Most of the dishes have fish and curry but you can also find chicken here A bottle of water costs 15 RFY while cookies and small snacks go for 5-10 RFY. Foreigners’ meals cost $7-10. It’s mostly just pizza and pasta, though. There is also Chinese food for around $5-6 USD per dish.
If you decide to do activities will cost you $30 USD per person for snorkeling, dolphin watching and visiting the sand bank. If you decide to visit a luxury resort in a day trip with activities and lunch included will cost you $100-150 USD per person. There are only 11 guesthouses and hotels in Gulhi Island. Prices starting from $40-60 USD depending on the season. Most of them included breakfast so take advantage of that freebie. We stayed at Nemo Inn and everything was great. We will write below in this blog post about our experience with pictures.

How Many Days Should I Spend in Omadhoo Island
At least 3 days would be great to spend in Omadhoo Island. The place is small but there are day trips to do for snorkeling, sand bank, dolphin watching and more. One day relaxing in the island around the bikini beach and around catching the sunset or snorkeling.
Make sure you check the schedules of the public boat and speed boat. Also you book in advance your guesthouse. There are 10 Guesthouses in Omadhoo Island so make sure there is availability for you.
There are small shops for buying snacks and food! There are schools and you can see people playing cricket around.
Things to do in Omadhoo Island
1. Visit the bikini Beach
The bikini beach in Omadhoo island is so beautiful and quiet. There is a sand bank and it’s a nice place for snorkeling. It was rainy when we visited! It’s in the East side of the island!
2. Snorkeling in the reef in Omadho Island
Apart from the water that is so clear in Omadhoo Island. There are many fish in the water. It’s great to get your camera and try to find manta rays and turtles.
3. Island Hopping around Omadho Island
There are islands with no people around. Just get a boat and have an island for yourself. The guesthouses will organize your trip. It depends on you want to stay only in the island or add more activities.
4. Fishing Trips
It’s a fisherman island and most of the people work fishing. It can be an amazing experience fishing in the sunset. Most of the people choose this excursion in Omadhoo.
5. Water Sports
If you are spending the day in bikini beach or you are going around the islands. You will have the opportunity to try water sports.
6. Dolphin Watching
One of the most popular things to do in Omadhoo Island is dolphin watching at sunset time. The activity costs $30 USD per person and it will take 1-2 hours.
7. Turtle Snorkeling
If you want to try turtle snorkeling you will have to join a tour organized for the guest houses. Prices are around $30 USD per person. The trip will take 1-2 hours.
8. Smoking Shisha
After dinner locals love smoking shisha is always a great chance to meet locals and make new friends. After the sunset and having dinner can be the best way to relax and be ready for the next day.
9. Watching Manta Rays
You can see them right in the port or around the island. The best hours to see them is in the morning and at sunset. We spot a lot of them in the port!
10. Sand Bank trip
We didn’t join for a sand bank trip in Omadhoo Island since it was raining. But prices are similar and it’s so worth it the experience. Better going early morning or at lunchtime to avoid the crowd. Prices are around $35 USD per person.
11. Visit a Luxury Resort
There are tours going to luxury resorts and prices are going from $100-150 USD per person depending how many people are joining with lunch included, snorkeling and visiting sand banks. The best way is organizing in your guest house.

12. Diving
If you decide to leave the island for activities you have to try diving in Dhiffushi. The resorts offer tours going there and be ready to enjoy! Prices for 2 tank dive is around $150 USD.
Where to stay in Omadhoo Island
Our choice was Nemo Inn running for Moosa and his brothers. They are really nice and they took care of us. They organize day trips, they cook Western and local food. Also they will help you with your next destination booking your speed boat and letting you know the schedule.
The place is small 4-5 rooms with nice views from the balcony where you will have your meals. And it’s located close to the port and just 5 minutes walking distance of the bikini beach.

What to eat in Omadho Island
We didn’t see local places to eat around the island. Just a cafe near the port. We ate all the meals at our guesthouse Nemo Inn. We tried local and Western food and everything was great. Check the pictures below:
