Parking your car in Switzerland? It wasn’t easy and sometimes it was complicated in cities like Zurich to find a spot where to park. My main worry in Switzerland was parking really hard to find. But the prices of the parking weren’t so expensive at all compared with the prices of food and accommodation in Switzerland. I will explain below all the different parking areas in Switzerland:

In you want to park in the white areas in Switzerland. It will be paid parking during the day and it can be free of charge at night time. You can park maximum of 2 hours during the day around 4 CHF per hour. Make sure you are bringing coins sometimes it’s not allowed to pay with a credit card, especially in small towns.

At night time you can park for free in Switzerland usually from 7 pm until 8 am or a similar schedule. Make sure you double-check the exact time because it’s not fixed in Switzerland depending on the cities and cantons.

Yellow Park Zones

If you see Yellow Park Zones in Switzerland means it’s not allowed and you can’t park since they are private.

In the Blue areas are allowed to park your car in Switzerland for free. You can park for free in the blue areas but only for 1 hour during the day. It could be half and hour more since it starts counting 30 minutes from 30 minutes. It means if you park at 8 05 am it will start counting at 8 30 am.

Blue areas usually start from 8 am until 7 pm from Monday to Saturday, and you can park anytime on Sunday. If you park at night it means you will have to move the car after 1 hour and a half. You can also park the whole night and you need to put the Blue Disk.

Sometimes you can park in blue areas in city center but it could be really hard to find a place to park during the day. But you can always find the white areas if not which are paid.

Can you change the Blue Disk Clock Without Moving Your Car in Switzerland?

It’s not allowed to change the time of your blue disk without moving the car in Switzerland during the daytime. If the police gets you, a ticket will be waiting for you (around 45-90 CHF) since they check so often.

You can also park your car in Switzerland for free in the neighborhoods where it says Besucher means parking for guests. There are also bars and restaurants where you can get free parking. You can also park your car in Switzerland in the supermarkets sometimes for unlimited time and others limited to up to 2 hours.

The main problem will be parking your car since there aren’t many places for this. In general this is a problem in the cities in Switzerland like Zurich it will be hard. There are tourist places like Zermatt where cars aren’t allowed.

You can go by car until 10 kilometers before Zermatt where you will have to park your car in a parking. From there you can get a taxi, bus or train to reach Zermatt. There are many hikes to do!
