WHAT IS THE SWISS MOTORWAY VIGNETTE
If you want to drive in the highways during your road trip you need a Swiss Motorway Vignette. What’s The Swiss Motorway Vignette? The Swiss Motorway Vignette is a sticker that you will have to put in the front of your car visible in the windscreen. If you rent a car in Switzerland it will be included but make sure you check it out.
Be careful if you drive into the highways without the Vignette you can get an expensive ticket in Switzerland in the same way with the speed limits. The Green signs will be indicating the highways mandatory to have the Vignette and the Blue signs are the secondary roads where you can drive without the Vignette.
How To Buy The Swiss Motorway Vignette
You can buy the Vignette in the supermarket, post office and petrol stations. If you a renting a car in Switzerland you will not have to buy since they have already in the rental company. The Swiss Motorway Vignette costs 40 CHF and it will last for one year.
Make sure you buy before driving in the highways. Otherwise you will get a huge ticket: 200 CHF! If you are planning to drive in Liechtenstein you can also use the Swiss vignette in their highways same as in Switzerland.
Do I Need To Buy The Swiss Highway Vignette
It’s not necessary to buy the Swiss Vignette if you don’t drive in the highways in Switzerland. But it will save you a lot of time when driving around the cities especially in the Northern part of Zurich, Bern, Basel and Lucerne. You can drive between those cities without entering the highways but it will take you a longer time.
I barely used the highways in Switzerland in the French part. But if you are planning to drive in the German part you will save a lot of time as I mentioned above. It depends on the road trip that you want to have in Switzerland.
SWITZERLAND ACCOMMODATION EXPENSES
The main of the Switzerland trip cost is the accommodation. As you know prices are really expensive for accommodation in Switzerland. The cheapest that you can find for a dorm in Switzerland is around €40 especially in Interlaken where most of the backpackers go. If you want to have a room on your own prices can go to €80-100 for a budget hotel room good enough for two people.
In both cases you will have breakfast included. If you are looking for luxury accommodation in Switzerland starting from €150-200 and it can be more expensive in the high season in Switzerland.
