HOW TO GET FROM RIO DE JANEIRO AIRPORT TO COPACABANA

AIRPORT BRT BUS FROM RIO DE JANEIRO AIRPORT TO COPACABANA (CHEAPEST WAY)

The cheapest way from Rio de Janeiro airport to Copacabana is by BRT Bus plus metro. The BRT Buses are leaving Rio de Janeiro airport available 24/7 running every 15 minutes.

The BRT bus fare is 4 BRL which is less than $1 USD and you will have to buy a Rio Card in the vending machine at the airport for 3 BRL (it’s mandatory to use the system in Rio and you can refund later). You can get a Bilhete Unico for 2 hours Bus and Metro with the Rio Card.

The total bus travel time plus from Rio de Janeiro airport to Copacabana is around 1 hour and 45 minutes depending on the traffic. The BRT Buses have 50 stops coming from the airport. The buses are leaving at Arrivals Terminal 1 and 2 at Rio de Janeiro airport you will see them easily.

From Rio de Janeiro airport to Copacabana by bus you will have to stop at Vicente de Carvalho Metro Station. You have to get the TransCarioca (Orange Line) and you can stop at Cardeal Arcoverde, Siqueira Campos and Cantagalo if you are heading to Copacabana.

If you are going from Rio de Janeiro to Ipanema by bus and metro you will ahve to stop at General Osório Metro Station where you can go walking distance to your accommodation. The metro ticket is only 4 BRL and you can use top up in your Rio Card.

The cheapest way will be around 8 BRL which is less than $2 USD bus and metro and around 2 hours travel time!

ESPRESS SHUTTLE BUS FRECAO FROM RIO DE JANEIRO AIRPORT TO COPACABANA AND IPANEMA

You can go by shuttle bus from Rio de Janeiro airport to Copacabana. The shuttle bus fare from Rio de Janeiro airport to Copacabana and Ipanema is 19 BRL which is $3 USD per person and the buses are running every 30 minutes starting from 5 30 am until midnight.

The travel time by shuttle bus from Galeão International Airport to Copacabana and Ipanema center is around 1 hour and 20 minutes to reach Copacabana and Ipanema during day time. You can pay with cash and with the Rio Card and see them in at the Terminal color Blue is called Frescao Buses for the locals.

The shuttle bus is a direct service and it’s faster than the BRT Buses since it does less stops and it’s going to tourist destinations (you will avoid getting the Metro going within walking distance from your bus stop). Check below the main routes of the shuttle buses from Rio Airport:

PEDRA DO TELÉGRAFO

For our tours in Rio de Janeiro we chose Jeep tour going around by jeep in Rio de Janeiro with a Tour Guide. Our favorite place to visit in Rio de Janeiro is Pedra Do Telégrafo an hour driving from the city. You will have to hike 45 minutes to reach Pedra Do Telégrafo views. There are no buses going to this area, make sure you rent a motorbike, hitchhike or you join a tour.

CHRIST THE REDEEMER

Christ the Redeemer is a must see in Rio de Janeiro. You will have to go there by train, van or hiking. There is an entrance fee of 55 BRL and on the top you will be able to enjoy the views of Rio de Janeiro and Christ the Redeemer.

ESCADARIA SELARÓN

Escadaria Selarón is an amazing spot in Rio de Janeiro if you are looking for colorful pictures. Santa Ana is a neighborhood located near the city center. In Escadaria Selarón you will find a great vibe, coffee shops and nice places to walk around.

RAINFOREST

Rainforest in Rio de Janeiro is located a few minutes outside the city. You can go for a walk and you will find waterfalls in a green area. Apart from the waterfalls after the Rainforest on the way back to Rio de Janeiro you will find amazing views.
