Since we are based in Angeles City in the province of Pampanga, It’s only one hour driving distance for us and we have been visiting a few times.
Subic is located in the province of Zambales. It’s only 3 hours drive from Manila. Subic is a free port zone that was built during the years the Americans colonized the country. Subic is small, peaceful and quiet. It’s a great place to walk around. You can see a mix of local people with foreigners living there. Read here how to get to Subic

HOW TO GET TO SUBIC
GETTING TO SUBIC FROM MANILA
If you are getting to Subic from Manila you can get a bus from Cubao, Earnshaw, Pasay and Caloocan going to Olongapo. Victory Liner buses are going there and the fare is 270 PHP.
Once in Olangapo you can move around by jeepney or tricycle depending where are you going to in Subic area. If you want to go to Subic by jeepney from Olongapo ride the jeepney until SM City Olongapo Mall and from there you can go walking to Subic free port area.
GETTING TO SUBIC FROM CLARK
If you are getting to Subic from Clark International airport you just need to reach Dau Bus station and you have two options to get to Subic. A minivan is leaving every hour or so to Subic and they will drop you at the Harbor Point Mall in Subic. The fare is 130 PHP per person and it will take one hour.
If you want to get to Subic by bus from Clark from Dau Station, you have to go to Olongapo city. The fare is 140 PHP and it will take almost an hour and a half to reach Olongapo. Once in Olongapo you have to get a jeepney to SM Olongapo where you can go walking to Subic freeport zone.
CURRENCY ATMS IN SUBIC
There are plenty ATMs in Subic area and currency exchange offices. Just notice that the ATM will take 200 PHP commission per withdrawal for foreigner cards apart from the commission from your bank.
INTERNET AND WIFI CONNECTION IN SUBIC
Most of the hotels and hostels have wifi connection. There are also coffee shops and restaurants where you can connect online. Globe and Smart works properly around Subic are in case you need to use data. Read here to know more about the best Filipino sim for tourist.
WEATHER/BEST TIME TO VISIT SUBIC
Since the Philippines is made up of many different islands, weather conditions may vary from one city to another. If you’re traveling to Subic, you can expect considerably small variations to the city’s weather. Humidity is high in the Philippines and the warmest months here are April and May.
Basically, January to March is the best time for Subic itinerary as this is the sunniest period of the year and is relatively cooler than other months.
TRANSPORTATION AROUND SUBIC
If you are staying around Subic Freeport zone you can go walking distance to different places. There are also taxis to move around Subic. If you want to get a jeepney you have to walk 10 minutes to SM Olongapo and you can get transportation to move around the area.
Jeepneys costs around 10 PHP and taxis are affordable since there aren’t big distances in Subic. There are also a few jeepneys leaving near Jollybee to different points of Subic if you prefer public transportation. And it cost between 10-20 PHP depending on the distance.
SUBIC ITINERARY DAILY BUDGET TRAVEL
Those visiting Subic will find inexpensive but more pricey than other places in the Philippines. A full meal in Olongapo city can go for as low as 80 PHP per person while a bottle of beer can be bought for around 50-65 PHP. Restaurant food can be bought for around 500-800 PHP for two people around Subic area.
Pretty cheap, right? And if you only have 20 PHP in your pocket and you’re feeling pretty hungry, you can even buy plenty of street food with your cash.
Transportation is also pretty cheap with jeepneys going all over town at a flat rate of 10 PHP and 50-100 PHP if you want to move around taxi.
Those who are looking for budget hotels in Subic and can find 900-1200 PHP. There are mid budget establishments go for around 1500-2000 PHP. That’s only $19-38 USD! For those who want a more luxurious stay, you can check in at very nice hotels at around $50-120 USD.
SUBIC TOURIST SPOTS AND THINGS TO DO IN SUBIC
1. ZOOBIC SAFARI
If you travel to Subic with kids or if you love to see animals, it’s a great idea visiting Zoobic Safari. It’s around 30 minutes driving distance jeepney ride from Subic Freeport zone.
We enjoyed walking around Zoobic, especially since we were visiting with a child watching and taking pictures of the animals. Entrance tickets for adults are starting at 500 PHP.
2. OCEAN ADVENTURE
You can visit the friendly dolphins in Ocean Adventure in Subic. If you travel Subic with kids, they will enjoy the different shows with the dolphins and the sea lions. You can’t miss as Subic tourist spots if you are traveling with kids.
There is also the Ocean Aquarium where you can see the sea creatures in their habitat with coral reefs and deep dark caves. There are sea horses, sea snakes and exotic colorful fishes. There are promo tickets starting from 700 PHP.
3. TREE TOP ADVENTURE
If you want to experience the fresh air of Subic and an adventurous experience, this is your place: Tree Top Adventure. If you aren´t afraid of heights, you will enjoy Ziplines, Tree Top Falling and the favorite activity of Han and Rachel, the Canopy Rides in this peaceful place.
You can enjoy activities for 250 PHP each. Or you can enjoy a package for 900 PHP canopy ride and trekking, skywalk, superman ride, silver surfer and tree drop adventure.
4. WATERSPORTS IN SUBIC
Network Jetsports was easily one of the best places you can go to to enjoy water sports. I did jet sky and my first fly boarding. Let’s just say it was a pretty adventurous afternoon and so much fun!

5. KABAYO WATERFALLS
El Kabayo falls has two falls, one 4-feet, and 1 15 fee where you can swim, and have a bath, while beating the summer heat. There are also accommodations available in Kabayo waterfalls just in case you are planning overnight. There is an entrance fee of 50 PHP.
6. FUNTASTIC PARK
If you’re traveling with a kid, another of the Subic tourist spots that definitely an activity that you need to do. You can choose from puzzles, top-to-down rooms, 3D photo frames, places to play with other kids, educational materials, garden mazes, a trampoline, and our favorite, the VR shows.
Our little one whom we took with us had a lot of fun in Funtastic park. Entrance ticket is 400 PHP.
7. ISLAND HOPPING IN ZAMBALES
You can just get a bus and heading to Zambales, less than 40 minutes driving. There are a few island to visit: Camara Island, Capones Island and you can visit Anawangin Cove and Nagsasa Cove.
Prices to organize the island hopping are around 2000 PHP for going to Camara, Capones Island and Ananwangin. If you include Nagsasa Cove in your itinerary you will have to pay 2500 PHP total for all the islands.
You have to bring your own food to the tour but you can get a galon of water from the boatmen 50 PHP for the whole day. You can go around Pundaquit and find a carinderia where you can buy food and rice for your day tour.
How to get to Capones Island? You have to ride a bus from Olongapo bus terminal to San Antonio. It costs 50 PHP a local bus and it takes 40 minutes.
Once you are in San Antonio you have to get a tricycle to Pundaquit. There are 4 kilometers ride from San Antonio to Pundaquit and they charged us 30 PHP per head.
8. JEST CAMP SURVIVAL SKILLS
Jest Camp Survival Training is the most famous and the toughest survival school in the Philippines. JEST Camp can offer you different experiences from learning how to make a fire to spend overnight in the rainforest in Subic.
If you like diving as an activity that you can practice in Subic. There are a few places which organize around the area. The marine life in Subic is diverse and suitable for beginners and advanced divers.

10. SUNSET IN SUBIC
In Subic, the sunsets almost never disappoint, so it’s always a moment of the day we looked forward to. We took magical shots every trip that we did in Subic!
11. HANGING OUT PIER ONE
You can have dinner and a few beers. After that you can even dance or enjoy music with live on-stage music. Filipinos love singing and there is always a band to enjoy the night. It was our favorite place to have a beer in Subic.
12. VISITING A RESORT IN SUBIC
If you want to have your luxury experience in Subic there are a few options. The resorts are great and you can choose spending the day or staying overnight. Lighthouse and Le Charme Suites are our favorite ones. You can read our reviews of our staying!
13. LOCAL BEACH IN SUBIC
Beaches are usually inside the private resorts in Subic. You have your own beach in the place that you are staying. But we love to have local contact everywhere. And why not visit public local beaches? We were surprised that public beaches in Subic aren’t for free.
Well, the entrance is only half dollar but still. If you want to rent your own cottage to spend the day with much more comfort, especially if you are bringing with you some luggage, you will have to pay at least $20 USD. The beaches were very quiet in Subic, with not too many people overcrowding the beach.
14. TRY LOCAL FOOD
The best in Subic are mangoes. We were having daily since is a mango province. Our favorite local choice was Kare Kare a local dish cooked with rice, meat and egg plant served with peanuts sauce.
15. SHOPPING IN DUTY FREE
Freeport zone yeah! If you like shopping you will find great deals around the area. Since wine to products of different countries will be easy to find for you.
16. NIGHT WALKS IN THE BEACH
It´s so peaceful and with almost nobody around. You can enjoy walking barefoot and having a nice conversation while hearing the sound of the waves. And the weather at this time is perfect to enjoy the breeze! This plan is also great to do first thing in the morning depedning if you are a morning person!
17. OLONGAPO MARKET
It’s great to check local markets everywhere and Olongapo market will not disappoint you. Great to taste local fruits and affordable restaurants. You can go there by jeepney.
18. VR EXPERIENCE IN SUBIC
Our first time trying the Virtual Reality experience. It was better than we expected. There are different games you can choose from and we played two. The first one seemed sooo real and active with zombies everywhere. Wear your mask and you will feel that you are inside the movie, super realistic!
The second one was more of doing strategies, defending the fort and it was super fun, too. Don´t miss this activity if you are planning to go to Subic. We had this experience in Le Charme Suites Subic!
WHERE TO STAY IN SUBIC
LE CHARM SUITES
Le Charmé Suites- Subic offers rooms in Olongapo. Providing a restaurant, the property also features a terrace, as well as a hot tub and a sauna. Guest rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV with cable channels, a electric tea pot, a bath, free toiletries and a desk.
With a private bathroom equipped with a bidet and a hair dryer, certain accommodations at the hotel also have a balcony. At Le Charmé Suites- Subic every room is equipped with a seating area. A buffet breakfast is available daily at the property. The accommodation has an outdoor pool. The area is popular for cycling, and bike rental is available at Le Charmé Suites- Subic. Price starts at $140 USD.
Asiana Hotel has accommodations with a garden. The 3-star hotel has air-conditioned rooms with a private bathroom and free WiFi. Subic Bay Convention Center is 3.5 km from the hotel. Guest rooms in the hotel are equipped with a flat-screen TV.
The restaurant at Asiana Hotel specializes in International, Asian and Local cuisine. The accommodation can conveniently provide information at the reception to help guests to get around the area. Room starts at 1,150 PHP a night.
VISTA MARINA HOTEL AND RESORT
VISTA MARINA HOTEL & RESORT has accommodations with private balconies. Featuring a 24-hour front desk, this property also has a restaurant and an outdoor pool. Free WiFi is available. Guest rooms in the resort are equipped with a electric tea pot.
Every room comes with a private bathroom. At VISTA MARINA HOTEL & RESORT, each room includes air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. A buffet breakfast is available each morning at the accommodation. Room rate starts at 3,900 PHP a night.
THE LIGHTHOUSE MARINA RESORT
The Lighthouse Marina Resort features an outdoor pool and views of the sea. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. Every room at this hotel is air conditioned and features a flat-screen TV with cable channels and DVD player.
All rooms are equipped with a private bathroom fitted with a bath. For your comfort, you will find bathrobes, slippers and free toiletries. You will find a 24-hour front desk at the property. Rate starts at 7,700 PHP.
SUZUKI BEACH HOTEL
Suzuki Beach Hotel has air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi. The property has a bar, as well as a restaurant serving Japanese cuisine. The property provides a 24-hour front desk. Every room is equipped with a private bathroom, while some feature a sea view.
The rooms will provide guests with a fridge. A continental breakfast is served each morning at the property. The hotel has an outdoor pool.
BEST WESTERN SUBIC HOTEL
Best Western Plus Hotel Subic features a rooftop pool and a fitness center. All rooms are air-conditioned and free WiFi is available throughout the property. Every room is appointed with a flat-screen TV and an electric kettle. Some rooms have a mini-bar. The private bathroom provides a shower and free toiletries.
Enjoy a meal at Spencer’s Fusion Bar & Resto or have a drink at the bar. Plenty of restaurants are within a 5-minute walk from the property. Take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool or exercise at the fitness center. Guests can make use of the business center and currency exchange services. Staff at the 24/7 reception can assist you with luggage storage. Rate starts at 5,490 PHP a night.
WHERE TO EAT IN SUBIC
If you are looking for a nice restaurant with a romantic vibe, Rali’s Restaurant is what you are looking for. It is also located in Subic Bay’s Freeport Zone. Their specialty are Blackened Tuna, Stuffed Bacon Wrap Chicken and Carmen’s Best Chocolate Ice Cream for dessert. You can opt for a candlelit dinner with your loved ones.
CRAB AND BELLY
Established in 2017, Crab and Belly offers fresh seafood dishes as well as ‘belly’ dishes. Being pretty close to the sea, you can be sure that Crab and Belly can only offer fresh seafood ingredients in the dishes that they will serve.
They have seafood platters and even also offers unlimited crab or shrimp for 1,4999 PHP! They are located in Lincoln Street in Subic Bay Freeport Zone.
1925 Gastropub, located in Sampson Road in Subic Bay Freeport zone, offers Filipino and Asian food with a twist. Its modern design and interior will surely make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Some of their best sellers are Malunggay Pesto, Balut ala Pobre at Laing Roll.
Partner it with their signature drinks, you’ll truly enjoy your visit. With its strategic location near the naval docks, the gastropub offers a wide variety of drinks, both local and international, to soothe the taste of the millennial and the international customers who visit the place.
ILANIN BAY CAFE
Also located in Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Ilanin Bay Cafe offers affordable but tasty food. Sometimes called as Canteen by the bay, it also offers a nice view of the water since it is just near. They have local comfort foods such as pancit and halo-halo.
FESTIVALS IN SUBIC
This is a festival that serves as a promotional campaigns for businesses via the parade, rallies and races. Scooters are on parade at the Scootourista Festival primarily because Subic Bay is where many big scooter companies drop off the goods to sell to the Filipino market.
Big names such as Honda and Mitsubishi as well as American motorbike brands participate at the Scootourista Festival and races are held between professional drivers.
FIL-AM FRIENDSHIP DAY
Subic Bay was where the US military base was set up until 1991 by virtue of an agreement between the governments of the US and the Philippines. During the time that the American base was located in Subic, the Americans and the Filipinos lived in perfect harmony and hence the origin of the Fil-Am Friendship Day.
This Subic Bay festival is on the same date as the US Independence Day which is July 4 and there are special activities during the Fil-Am Friendship Day. The Fil-Am Friendship Day remembers the combined efforts of the American and Filipinos during the Second World War to achieve freedom from the Imperial rule.
