BEST TIME TO VISIT SUN MOON LAKE

Sun Moon Lake is located in North Taiwan so the weather is really nice it can be cold in January and February. In Taipei and the weather it’s not so hot like Tainan and Kaohsiung. The best time to visit Sun Moon Lake is from November to April when the weather is dry and not so hot the temperature.

November to April: The weather is dry and temperature is not so hot. The coldest months are January and February. May to October: The weather is so hot and it’s rainy season. The typhoon season is starting from July to September when is the most rainy season in Taiwan.

how to get from Kaohsiung airport to city center. ATMs in Kaohsiung airport

There are few ATMs in the airport that they don’t charge commission. There are a couple of places to exchange money in the airport. Outside the airport it can be difficult to exchange money in Taiwan. You will be able to do it only in banks. The exchange rate $1 USD= 30 TWD.

How to get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by Bus

If you want to get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by bus. You have to head to Taipei Main Bus Station. The bus costs 500 TWD for one way and it will take less than 4 hours to get there. There are a few buses leaving during the day starting at 7 am and finishing at 5 pm.

The bus number 1833 and you will find in the Exit 5 of Taipei Main Station. You can purchase return ticket from Taipei Main Station. So you will avoid buying before leaving Sun Moon Lake.

How to get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by Train

If you want to go from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by train. You can take HSR
from Taipei to Taichung City stopping at Taichung HSR Station. The buses are leaving every 30 minutes starting at 7 am and it will take 1 hour and a half. The bus fare Taiching to Sun Moon Lake is 200 TWD.

The total travel time will be less around 3 hours from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by High speed train.

How to get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by car

If you want to get from Taipei to Sun Moon Lake by car. From Taipei to Sun Moon Lake distance is 250 kilometers and it will take you 3 hours by car. This option will be great if you are traveling in a group or you are bringing so much luggage.

How to get from Taichung to Sun Moon Lake  by Bus

If you want to get from Taichung to Sun Moon Lake by bus. There are a few daily buses going from the Bus Station. It costs 200 TWD and it will take you one hour and a half to get there.

Buses starts around 7 am. You can pay with the Easy Card. We found this way the most convenient to go to Sun Moon Lake from Taichung talking about quality and price.

How to get from Alishan to Sun Moon Lake

If you want to get to Sun Moon Lake from Alishan. There is a bus 6739 leaving 1 pm. For leaving Sun Moon Lake is leaving at 8 am. It costs 330 TWD and it will take 3 hours the journey from Alishan to Sun Moon Lake.

The journey took us around 3 hours to reach there. We stopped once to stretch our muscles. And once in the town we were walking around and having lunch. After this we took three boats to two different islands.

We were visiting temples and watching the amazing views of the division of the Lake between Sun and Moon. After this we move to other island where you can find a familiar environment, eat street food especially popular the ice cream. And you can also ride a cable car. We chose walking around and flying the drone in both of the cases.

The boats were so comfortable and we enjoyed the rides since it was a sunny day. For the sunset we went to Wen Wu Temple which was our favorite stop of the day. From here we went back to Taipei Main Station and this time it took us less than 3 hours since we found less traffic.

We have to say that for us was the best way to travel around Kaohsiung since you just put load and you can use in MRT, buses and even going to places like Fo Guang Shang Memorial which is outside the center. You can also use it in Taipei. Plus you can use for buying in 7 Eleven and convenience stores in the country. So i’s pretty convenient.

You can purchase in convenience stores in Kaohsiung. Also available in the airport you will pay 100 TWD which is $3 USD non refundable. It’s comfortable and every time that you use your Easy Card you get 15% discounts in your MRT and bus trips. You can recharge in convenience stores or in MRT Stations. You can use that money to buy in convenience stores in Taiwan. It’s great since there are Family Mart 7 Eleven all over Kaohsiung and Taiwan.
