That’s why we will write how to get to Macau from Hong Kong. I personally think it will be great if you can stay overnight in Macau. The whole centre of Macau is on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list which is brilliant so nearly all the sites here have historic importance. Portuguese influence are mostly seen in some of their architectural designs, you can see many churches as well. Most of the sights can be done in a day trip if you don’t have time to spend a few days in Macau.

Best time to visit Macau

If you’re planning to visit Macau during its peak seasons. The best time to visit Macau is from October to December where the weather is great. March to April is also a great time to travel to Macau, which is Spring time. Macau tends to be hot and humid between May and October. From May to July expect rainy days in Macau. January and February are the coldest months.

How to get to Macau from Hong Kong By Ferry

The cheapest and most convenient way to get to Macau is by ferry. You can take the ferry from Kowloon or from Hong Kong Island to Macau. Hong Kong to Macau ferry is available to operate for 24 hours everyday and the ride takes approximately 55 minutes.  Ferries can go to Macau and also to Taipa island if you are planning to stay at Taipa as we did in Macau. There are 4 Ferry Terminals in Hong Kong:

Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal is the biggest and most popular one. It’s located in city center with ferries leaving every 15 minutes. Plus ferries are available 24 hours. So if you are close to city center this is the most convenient for you because of more departures during the day!

China Ferry Terminal in Tsin Sha Tsui (Kowloon)

China Ferry Terminal is located in China Shopping Mall in Kowloon downtown. Ferries aren’t 24 hours available. Ferries are leaving every hour from Hong Kong to Macau Taipa and Macau City Center.

Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal in New Territories

Tuen Mun Ferry Terminal is little bit far from city center. There are available just a few ferries per day. It can be convenient for you if you are staying close to this place.

Skypier Terminal in Hong Kong International Airport

Skypier Ferry Terminal is for passengers in transit in the airport. There are only 4-5 ferries during the day. If you miss the schedule you can always get the bus from there which can be also pretty convenient.

Once in Macau there are only two Ferry terminals: Macau Taipa and Macau Harbour Ferry Terminal.

It’s the most convenient especially if you for a day trip to Macau from Hong Kong. If you are staying close to the city center or you go with light luggage you can do sightseeing in Macau. No worries there are only 20-30 minutes bus driving depending on the traffic between Taipa and Macau City Center.

There are buses running during and it costs half dollar to get to Taipa from Macau. You can also get a taxi if you wish more comfort or you are bringing so much luggage. And even free buses going from the casinos, to the port to the hotels. You can get them for free no need to book a place in the hotel.

Macau Taipa

It’s the most convenient if you are staying at Taipa as we did. Just check out where is your hotel or your Airbnb. There are free shuttles going to the casino from the ferry even if you aren’t staying at that hotel. Just choose the one is closer to you.

If you prefer comfort and you are bringing luggage you can get a cab and you will be at your place faster than the bus.

So just pay attention which one is your final destination in Macau and what’s the most convenient in Hong Kong based the place that you are staying.

How to get to Macau By plane

We got Macau from Hong Kong by ferry and we left by airplane. We always use Skyscanner to look for our flights where 90% of the time we find the best deals. There are cheap flights to the Philippines from Macau, Thailand and other destiantions in Southeast Asia.

How to get to Macau from Hong Kong By Bus

If you want to get to Macau from Hong Kong by bus. There are buses leaving from East Point City and TST West Elements. Bus tickets are around $20 USD and it takes 1 hour and 15 minutes. You will get to Galaxy or Venetian in Macau. The problem with the bus vs the ferry to get to Macau from Hong Kong. The ferries Terminals are closer and easier to reach than the bus stop going to macau.

The bus service from Hong Kong to Macau started in October 2018. The bus ride is crossing Hong Kong-Zhuahi Macau Bridge (HZMB). There are 55 kilometers most of them from an amazing bridge, a few in an under sea tunnel. It took around 9 years to build this way. For me it was pretty amazing and I only saw that during my bicycle trip in Norway undersea tunnels.

Buses are running 24 hours in Hong Kong-Zhuahi Macau Bridge (HZMB) and departures are every 10-15 minutes. And prices are around $20 USD. You can purchase the tickets there. But you can also book online and avoid the hassle in your trip.

Remember you will have to cross borders between Hong Kong and Macau be ready with your luggage and your passport.

There are many city buses going to Hong Kong-Zhuahi Macau Bridge (HZMB). Prices are around $6-40 HKD. The cheapest and best option is B5 from Hong Kong Port and you will have to take MRT. There are other bus routes that you can check online like A 11, A 21, A 22, A 29, A 31, A 33X, A 36, A 35, A 41 and a few more. There are many buses going to that direction.

How to get to Macau from Hong Kong the fastest way

If you want to get to Macau from Hong Kong. The fastest way by helicopter and most comfortable option. If you feel like doing the most comfortable option a much more expensive one. You can ride a helicopter from Hong Kong which in only takes 15 minutes. Prices are around 4000 HKD which is $500 USD. This is the price to enjoy these amazing views!
