Siargao is one of our favorite island in the Philippines. Siargao is a small island in the coast in Surigao del Norte. It’s located in Mindanao. Siargao Island is popular because of surfing. In this blog post we will let you know how to get to Siargao by plane and by ferry from Manila, Cebu and Surigao City.

How to get to Siargao Island by Plane

Sayak Airport offer domestic flights but only Skyjet and Cebu Pacific fly direct from Manila and the flight will take around 2 hours. There are flights from Clark (lucky us that we are based in Angeles City) to Siargao with Philippine Airlines. The airport is located in Barangay Del Carmen, where most tourist attraction are located.

There are also direct flights from Cebu and Davao. So if you are going to Siargao Island from outside the Philippines you will have to get to these airports and from there take another flight to Siargao.

Prices for a tricycle going to General Luna are 400 PHP and it’s good enough for 2-3 people. There are also vans available for 300 PHP per person going to General Luna where are the most of the accommodations in Siargao.

How to get to Siargao Island

There are available ferry rides daily from Surigao City to Siargao Island. There are two choices for ferry the fast boats and the slower boats. Fast Boats is either a multi-level steel vessels of single level large bancas. Duration time would be four hours, fare would be around 350 PHP ($6). The schedule going to Siargao usually is from 10 am to 1 pm. And boats are leaving siargao from 5 to 6 am. The boats are leaving from Dapa port which is 30 minutes driving from General Luna around 20 kilometers.

We were lucky and we could travel for 100 PHP each since RO-RO was making a peso fare. It means ultra discount ticket.

How to get to Siargao from Camiguin Island

First you have to ride the boat leaving Siargao Island around 5-6 am from Dapa port on the way to Surigao City. From Surigao City head to the bus station and ride a bus going to Butuan City. Buses are available as early as 5:30 AM and wait for passenger for 30 minutes only. Vans are also available but it can get pricey, so bus is preferred. Fare is approximately 400 PHP. Once you arrive in Butuan City, ride a bus going to Cagayan de Oro and get off at Balingoan Port. Fare is about 250 PHP to 300 PHP. From Balingoan, ride a ferry to Benoni Port in Camiguin. You have to do vice versa to get to Siargao from Camiguin Island as we did. We stopped overnight in Surigao City since we didn’t leave early morning in Camiguin Island.

How to get to Siargao from Cagayan de Oro

If you’re going to Surigao City in the ferry leaving early morning. Once in Surigao City you have to take a bus going to Butuan City. Bus fare costs 210 PHP and the ride will take less than 3 hours. After alighting at Butuan City, ride a bus going to Cagayan de Oro. You will be 3 hours on the road and the bus fare is 200 PHP for one person.
