There are a few bus companies Civa and Cruz del Sur going from Arequipa to Ica. Most of the departures are at night time which is perfect to save one-night accommodation since the bus takes around 12 hours travel time from Arequipa to Ica.

WHAT TO DO IN ICA AND HUACACHINA

The best things to do in Huacachina is enjoying the oasis which is a magical place. At sunset is the best time to go thru the desert by buggy to enjoy the sunset. While waiting for the sunset you will enjoy the buggy rides thru the dunes and the sandboarding.

SANDBOARDING HUACACHINA

Sanboarding is the coolest attraction in Huacachina. When going thru the desert by buggy they will bring the sand boards. You can do sandboarding at least three times. It’s fun and our little one Han with 9 years old he liked it so much. It’s easy and the guides will help you and tell you how to do it.

BUGGY IN HUACACHINA

My favorite part of the tour was the buggy ride in Huacachina. The driver will go up and down thru the dunes and it’s so incredible the experience with people screaming in the car haha! Not dangerous since the drives are amazing and doing every day this buggy experience.

SUNSET AT HUACACHINA

The sunsets at Huacachina are so magical. The colors are amazing and you will be able to stop in the point of view before and during the sunset to take nice pictures of the desert if you are interested in taking pictures. If not just walk around and enjoy the beautiful views.

HUACACHINA OASIS

The Oasis in Huacachina is so peaceful for relaxing. You can even rent a boat to go around. Or just go for a beer and enjoy food in a restaurant with views to the Oasis. There are places where you can sunbathe and relax while reading.

PISCO TOUR IN ICA AND HUACACHINA

We did a Pisco Tour in a very beautiful Hacienda. The Pisco is the national drink in Peru and it’s a must to learn about this as we did with the coffee in Colombia. The tour is interesting and they will tell you the kind of grapes that they use for Pisco and how they ferment step by step.

The Pisco Tour includes Pisco tasting and you can see how are the differences when the Pisco is mixed with fruits and different flavors and Pisco on its own was my favorite own.

Apart from learning about the Pisco, there are activities like riding horses in the Hacienda. You can also stay overnight and enjoy swimming in the pool. There is also a restaurant if you want to have lunch with views to the horses.

ATMS AND CASH IN HUACACHINA

The official currency of Peru is called Peruvian Sol (PEN). And $1 USD=3.75 PEN. ATMs and exchange office are available all throughout Ica but just a few in Huacachina.

It’s advisable to withdraw as much as you can because fees for transactions tend to be higher for foreign cars. Banco de la Nacion is the only bank that isn’t charging commissions for foreign cards in Peru.
