It appears that the way to the airport from downtown Dakar has changed recently with the opening of the TER metro train.
Dakar city center to Dakar airport (DSS, AIBD) by train Operates 6:30-22:00 Train from Gare de Dakar to Diamniadio (final station), every 15min, 2500cfa 1st class (no waiting time, especially important during rush hour with very long queues for 2nd class, seat guarantee), 1500cfa 2nd class, 45 min trip Bus from Diamniadio to Airport (every 30min), 30min trip, 3000cfa although I think they ripped me off with the price here since the ticket mentions a departure point much closer to the city center and not Diamniadio At end of departure area (door 4) Total from city centre to airport 1:30h with some wait time for the bus.
According to a taxi driver (verification needed) Dem dik airport bus may now only be available from Gare routière de patte d'oie (next to Stade Léopold Serdar Senghor), every full hour, 1:30h trip, 6000chfa
