Udaipur was one of our favorite places to visit in Rajasthan. The city is quiet and there many things to do in Udaipur. We enjoyed in the ghats waiting for the sunset and taking pictures at the sunrise when it wasn’t busy. Apart from this we will tell you with more details in our Udaipur travel guide.

How to get to Udaipur

Getting to Udaipur by Plane

There domestic airport in Udaipur Maharana Pratap Airport is 22 kilometers far from city center. Most of the flights are coming from Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur.

Getting to Udaipur by Train

The train station is located inside the city. You can get trains from Mumbai, Delhi and most of the places in Rajasthan.

There are plenty of buses from different destinations in Rajasthan. Also from big cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

Best time to visit Udaipur

The best time to visit Udaipur is in winter from September to March. The rainy season is in July and August if you prefer avoiding them.

Udaipur Itinerary: How many Days I Should Spend in Udaipur

We recommend you as Udaipur itinerary to spend at least two days in the city. So you don’t have to hurry up visiting spots like City Palace, ghats and taking a ride around Lake Pichola.

You can have the opportunity to watch the sunset in different view points and even going outside the Monsoon Palace. Have romantic dinner in a rooftop or a drink!

If you want to enjoy the vibe of Udaipur you can stay up to 3-4 days. And you will be able to walk around and finding great spots to take pictures or just enjoy Lake Pichola.

Budget Travel in Udaipur

For transportation Udaipur will be free of cost since everything is walking distance in the city. For food expect to pay $2-3 USD for a meal in a local restaurant and $5-6 USD if you choose a rooftop restaurant for dinner per person.

Entrance fees to visit City Palace, temples or taking a boat ride in Lake Pichola can take $10-20 USD depending of the things to do in Udaipur that you choose.

Things to do in Udaipur

1. City Palace

It’s the symbol of Udaipur. Rajasthani architecture with amazing views to the city and Lake Pichola. It’s huge and you can stay up to 2-3 hours visiting.

It’s opened from 9 am to 5 30 pm. The tickets costs 250 IND and 100 IND for kids.

2. Sightseeing of Lake Pichola

This is the first thing to do when getting to Udaipur going to the lake. There are ghats where you can see the views and at sunset is quite busy. Best time to visit Lake Pichola is first thing in the morning when everything is quiet.

3. Visit Jagdish Temple

The temple was built by Maharaja Jagat Singh in 1651. Indian architecture and a local place to visit before Pichola Lake. There is no entrance fee you just need to go barefoot.

4. Life at Gangaur Ghat

The views are great and its quite busy. Great for taking pictures with the pigeons around. You can see the Taj Palace in the middle of the lake. You will see locals swimming and taking a bath since it’s considered a holy river.

5. Sunset at Ambrai Ghat

Opposite Gangaur Ghat you will find an ideal spot for sunset. It was our favorite one since you can take great pictures of Taj Palace in the middle of Lake Pichola. Ghats are very spiritual in Udaipur.

6. Rooftop Dinner in Udaipur

Udaipur is so beautiful and there are a few rooftop for dinner and sunset. We stayed in the highest in Udaipur. The dinner is great, you can have alcohol and they will be playing traditional music. Expect to pay around 600-800 per person for dinner.

7. Karni Mata Temple

The best time to visit the temple is for the sunset where you can have amazing views of Lake Pichola and beautiful colors. You can reach the temple climbing the stairs or by cable car.

It’s opened from 9 am to 9 pm and the entrance fee is 300 IND.

8. Take a Boat Ride in Lake Pichola

Taking a boat ride in Lake Pichola is one of the most popular things to do in Udaipur. For an hour boat ride expect to pay 400-600 INR per person. It depends on the time of the day it can be more expensive at sunset.

9. Monsoon Palace

Monsoon Palace is a luxurious hilltop palace located at a distance of about 9 kilometers far from the city. You will get panoramic views of the city, the hills and Lake Pichola.

It’s opened from 9 am to 6 pm and it costs 100 IND.

10. Bagore Ki Haveli

Bagore Ki Haveli was built in 18th century by the Prime Minister of Mewar. It’s located close to Gangaur Ghat. You will be able to see the lifestyle of the Royal Family during the day. At night there are traditional dances and you can have dinner.

It’s opened from 10 pm to 7 pm and the traditional dance starts from 7 to 8 pm.

11. Luxury Stay at Taj Palace

Taj Palace was built by the Maharanas of Mewar in 18th century. The Royal Family converted in a Palace Hotel in 1963. The only way to visit the hotel is staying there. If not you will have to be happy with the views from the ghats or point of views. Make sure you book in advance since you have to do it a few months before.

Where to Stay in Udaipur

We stayed Raj Kuber and Raj Palace in Udaipur. Both places quiet and calm with a pool for our free time.

Raj Kuber

Raj Kuber is located 1 kilometer walking distance to the ghats. It has the highest rooftop in Udaipur. The food was so delicious! And we loved it dinner in the rooftop those views were amazing. The views from our room were also incredible to Lake Pichola. Prices of the room are starting from $50-70 USD.

Raj Palace

It’s located 800 meters from Lake Pichola. We loved it the restaurant with affordable prices and delicious food. Rooms are beautiful and it has a swimming pool for relaxing. Prices of the rooms are starting from $30-40 USD.

Breakfast at Raj Kuber

For breakfast at Raj Kuber we had local options while playing music. We loved it there and the food was so delicious!

Rooftop Dinner in Udaipur at Raj Kuber

We love it the rooftop dinner at Raj Kuber. The highest point in Udaipur with amazing views. Also great place for a drink with the views while playing Rajasthan music.

Breakfast at Raj Palace in Udaipur

For breakfast at Raj Palace we had Western and Indian options and we love it the Indian coffee with milk and so sweet.
