GETTING TO UBUD

Ubud is located 40 kilometers away from Ngurah Rai International Airport. A drive from Bali airport to Ubud will take you 1-2 hours depending on the traffic.

Expect one hour if it’s not a busy day and around two hours during the peak hours. If you are coming from Kuta, Seminyak, and Canggu it will also take you 1-2 hours to reach Ubud.

You can go to Ubud via taxi but prices are quite expensive. If you are traveling light you can rent a motorbike to get to Ubud. For cheaper options you can get Grab and Go Jek to move around Bali.

In Ubud, it is very easy to get around. Everything is walking distance for shopping, local market, and restaurants. There are ATM machines and money exchange everywhere in Ubud. DAILY BUDGET TRAVEL IN UBUD

You can find cafes serving less than $1 USD and you can also eat local food like Nasi Goreng or Nasi Campur for $1-2. You can also enjoy some Smoothies and Gelato if you’re traveling on a hot season. Everything’s really affordable if you are traveling on a budget, you won’t have any problem at all. They also offer beers during Happy Hour for only $2-3 USD.

For accommodation, you can find really good accommodation for an affordable price. Prices start from $7 USD in a local guesthouse depending on how much you want to stretch your budget.

You can do tours (for example Tegalallang Rice fields starting from $10 USD). You can also get massages for $4-5 USD per hour and rent a motorbike for $4-5 USD per day. Ubud is really great for budget travelers.

3 Days Ubud Itinerary

Day 1 Itinerary in Ubud

For the first day of your itinerary in Ubud we recommend you to get a villa or an accommodation in the ricefields in Ubud. There are a few located 3-4 kilometers far from Ubud town and it’s cheaper and quiet. There are also nice places around the town.

To move around Ubud you can rent a motrobike for $5 USD per day and if you don’t feel confident you can sue Grab or a private driver.

You can start the day visiting Tegalalang Rice terraces or other rice fields around Ubud. After this you can go for a cooking class in Ubud and have a delicious lunch with local delicacies that you made it.

You can spend the afternoon at Monkey Forest and at night watching a Kecak dance.

Tegalalang Rice terraces is one of the most popular places to visit in your itinerary in Ubud. You can go on your own with your motorbike or joining to a tour. Tegalalang Rice terraces entrance fee is 15 000 IDR and the best time to visit is the sunrise when you will find less busy.

Apart from Tegalalang Rice terraces there are other rice fields in Ubud. You can find villas and places to stay 3-4 kilometers far from city center and you will be surrounded for them.

A cooking class in Ubud starts buying ingredients in the market. we had. Once in the kitchen cutting the ingredients for our Bali cooking class, as to how they were needed to be cut.

For the Sambal they have to be crushed carefully and completely using the traditional Balinese mortar and pestle. The food was delicious satay and nasi goreng with sambal. We tried a few dishes.

Monkey Forest

You can visit the Monkey Forest which is close to Ubud city center. We recommend you to visit them around the sunset time. You will find playful monkeys everywhere. Just make sure you respect them when taking pictures.

Monkey Forest entrance fee is 80K IDR which is around $5 USD. We enjoyed our time there, it can be busy but it’s one of the best things to do in Ubud for sure!

KECAK DANCE

Kecak dance was Rachel’s favorite activity in Bali. This traditional dance is very popular in Bali it involves acting and fire. They do it at night time and we saw a couple of show during our stay in Bali. It’s a perfect activity after having your dinner and it was really fun! As one of the best things to do in Ubud at night.

We went for dinner and watched The Barong Dance was one of the highlights of the trip as she enjoys the theatrics involved in the performance. After the play, the performers even let us take pictures with them.

Day 2 Itinerary in Ubud

For the second day in Ubud itinerary you can start your day relaxing in your accommodation with those typical breakfast in Bali. We enjoyed them a lot. It can be local, a la carte, buffet and even floating breakfast if you like to take nice pictures.

You can continue the day visiting temples around city center you will find a few. You can also visit the central market for shopping local products. They are very affordable and sometimes you need to bargain the price since they can be high. Remember always to bargain them with smile.

Rachel bought a few dresses and they even went down the price when they saw she was Filipino from the initial price. It’s always great supporting locals.

Rachel had so much fun in the local market, she bought the typical handmade bag called rattan from Ubud and also bought some dress for her collection. The local sellers were so friendly.

You can get dresses starting from $10 USD and the typical and super famous rattan bag starts at $15 USD depending on the size.

Local Food in Ubud

We love trying out local food in countries that we visit. Most of the choices were Nasi Goreng (fried rice), Mee Goreng (fried noodles), tempe and also Nasi Campur (rice mixed with vegetables). Prices starting from $1-2 USD.

Bakso and Soto are great if you want to try out their local soup and Gado Gado if you like salad. Sate was Rachel’s favorite and she was eating all the time, she loved putting peanut sauce on it. All these local dishes were $1-2 USD.

You can try some local food in the restaurants is so affordable and so delicious. They call Warung to a local restaurant and sometimes you can order dishes and sometimes you choose food and put all together in a dish and they charge depending on what you oredered.

It’s important to learn about Hinduism culture. Ubud is full of temples, we liked observing the architectural style while walking around in Ubud. It’s great if you can have a guide or a local friend explain to you some information about their religion and culture.

Campuhan Ridge Walk is great to visit for sunset. You will find a small walk with a sign and just enjoy walking for 30-40 minutes. You can take pictures on the way. There is no entrance fee at Campuhan Ridge Walk.

For your day 3 in your itinerary in Ubud you can start your day having yoga. And after breakfast you can have a spa treatment with your flower bath, healthy food and your massage which are so popular in Ubud.

If you have time you can also try yoga classes for a few days, Ubud is one of the best places to do it. Waking up early in the morning and doing this activity will make you feel great for the rest of the day. There a few places where you can stay and do yoga at the same time.

 We chose Fivelements for our Spa Experience in Ubud. Probably one of the best massages (if not the best) we’ve experienced so far in Bali, we treated ourselves with the Boreh Ritual signature treatment.

Adventure in Ubud

If you prefer adventure you can rent an ATV or a motorbike and explore around Ubud waterfalls and even day trips to water temple Pura Tirta Empul., Pura Lempuyang Luhur in Mt Agun. All these places are 2 hour driving distance from Ubud. You can go own your own motorbike, with Grab or Go Jek or renting a private driver.

Tegenungan Waterfall

Tegenungan Waterfall is located just 20 minute driving from Ubud, Tegenungan is a touristy waterfall for a reason. Tegenungan Waterfall entrance fee is 15 000 IDR per person. It’s so beautiful and touristy the best things is going early morning.

Tibumana Waterfall is located 40 minutes driving from Ubud. Tibumana Waterfall is one of the places that you can’t miss in your Ubud itinerary. It’s full of locals and it’s becoming a popular place for tourists too. Tibumana Waterfall entrance fee is 10 000 IDR per person.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

ATV, buggy, and rafting activities is popular in Ubud. Rachel and I had an amazing time riding through Ubud’s paddies, country side and seeing more of the real local life while driving up and down with the tandem buggy.

Day Trips from Ubud

If you want to do day trips from Ubud around 2 hours driving your motorbike or less if you join to a private tour. The most popular places are: Ulun Danu Beratan Temple and Handara Gates near Mundul area and Tirta Empul water temple and Lempuyang Luhur in North Bali. You can also visit Bali Swing and more temples around.

It will take two hours driving from Ubud to reach Lempuyang Luhur. It’s so touristy and you will find a lot of people. There is no entrance fee at Lempuyang Luhur but you need to rent a sarong for 10 000 IDR. You will get beautiful pictures.

Handara Gates

Handara Gates is located around Munduk area which is two hours driving from Ubud. You will have to wait the line for taking pictures. The place is beautiful but can be a long line. Handara Gates entrance fee is 30 000 IDR.

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple

Ulun Danu Beratan Temple is a great place to visit. If you go early morning will be less busy. If you visit during a Festival as we did can be crowded but it will be a worth it experience. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple entrance fee is 50 000 IDR.
