How To Get To Blue Eye Saranda

Getting By Car Syri I Kalter Albania

The best way to get to Blue Eye Albania is by car from Saranda. Since it’s only 25 kilometers driving distance taking SH99 road going from Saranda to Gjirokaster. If you are coming from Ksamil beaches will be 15 kilometers more than coming from Saranda.

If you go by taxi to the Blue Eye from Saranda the price for a round trip is €30.

Getting By Bus

There are local buses going from Saranda and Gjirokaster to the Blue Eye in Albania. The buses will stop in the intersection of SH99 and from here you will have to walk two kilometers to the entrance of the Blue Eye. The buses are running every hour from city center of both cities. Prices for the buses going from Saranda to the Blue Eye is €2.

Blue Eye in Albania Entrance Fee is 100 LEK per car and extra 50 LEK per person. For your information 100 LEK is around $1 USD. It’s so affordable in my case was a total 150 LEK since I went by car. You will have to pay the entrance fee and later driving 2 kilometers until the parking. The road isn’t the best and you will have to be careful by car.

Blue Eye in Albania is 50 meters deep. The Blue Eye Saranda is a water spring and natural phenomenon located in South Albania. Syri I Kalter is the name that locals use for the Blue Eye and it’s the most popular spot around the area apart from the beautiful beaches.

Swimming Is Not Allowed

The first thing to know about Blue Eye in Saranda is that swimming isn’t allowed. Even you will see a few people doing. The water is cold and it can be so refreshing especially in summer. But it’s better always respecting the rules.

Hiking

Hiking around the Blue Eye to explore the different areas and getting the different views. The hike will be only a few minutes and all of them are short hikes very well indicated.

While walking around taking pictures is the best thing to do in Blue Eye in Saranda. The place is beautiful with the color of the water and you will love taking your camera and even the drone if you have it as I did there.

Picnic

The Blue Eye Spring is a perfect place to have a picnic. There is a restaurant but maybe it can be closed if it’s not high season. If you are bringing your own food will be better for you since there are a few nice spots to sit down around the Blue Eye.

The best time to visit the Blue Eye in Albania is first thing in the morning during the summer season since it can be crowded. You can also wait for the sun is shining to see the beautiful colors in the Blue Eye.

What To Bring At Blue Eye in Albania

If you are coming by car to the Blue Eye and it’s really hot make sure you protect yourself with sunscreen. Bring some food to enjoy a rest with the beautiful views. And apart from your phone or camera to take pictures you will not need any special shoes for hiking since they are short.

I found the Blue Eye clean and I always recommend you to keep it clean. Keep your trash in a plastic bag if you see the trash is full especially if you do picnic.

Saranda can be the perfect base in Albania. There are plenty of hotels and restaurants in this city. You will be able to visit the beautiful beaches in Ksamil and The Blue Eye just 20-30 minutes driving distance and you can go by bus or taxi if you wish too.

Ksamil Beaches were my favorite in Albania. The blue water and white sand just 20 minutes driving distance from Saranda is a must to see. If you can spend 1-2 days swimming and relaxing will be great since there are a few places to stay for an affordable prices, And also restaurants are cheap in Albania.

Gjirokaster

Gjirokaster is a place that you can visit after the Blue Eye around 1 hour driving distance. Gjirokaster is a UNESCO site in Albania and this small town is really nice to walk around. A few things to do from visiting the castle and admire the views from the top of the town and there are a few restaurants to try local food.

The currency of Albania is called Albanian Lek and this is the money you will use while you travel around the country. And the exchange rate is €1= 125 Leks. Also if you are bringing debit card you will find many ATM’s all over Albania and most of them charge around €5-6 commission for withdrawal.

There are many places to exchange money in the airport and outside the airport offering great exchange rates.

FOOD BUDGET TRAVEL ALBANIA

For food budget travel in Albania we have to say that’s affordable. You can get snack meals in local places for €1-2 per person trying different choices like sufllaqe, donner and sandwiches. For breakfast byrek can cost less than €1. For decent meals expect to pay €4-5 per person in a restaurant.

WHERE TO STAY IN ALBANIA

A lot of budget option is available for accommodation in Albania. Where you can sleep in a dorm room or a room from less than $10 USD while you can stay in a budget hotel for as low as $20-30 USD. There are so many to choose from depending on what type and how luxurious you want your stay to be starting from $50 USD.

If you are traveling in Albania outside the peak season prices will be much cheaper.
