If you want to get from Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter by Grab. It will be one of the easiest ways. It’s not the cheapest way but still affordable. The price can go between $10-14 USD from Hanoi airport to old quarter. Remember Hanoi airport to old quarter distance is 30 kilometers.
You can pay with cash and with card in Grab. It’s so convenient if you aren’t bringing cash. Plus is fixed price and you will make sure you pay that when getting to the final destination.
How ot get from Hanoi Airport to City by Bus
If you want to get from Hanoi Airport to city by bus. There are a few buses Express Bus 86, 7, 17 and 90.
Express Bus 86
The Express Bus 86 will take you from the airport until Hanoi Railway Station in the city center near the Old Quarter. This is the best option in my opinion for tourists because it has free wifi and is so comfortable the bus.
You can show your address to the driver and they will tell you where to stop near the Old Quarter since it’s not stopping exactly at that point. You can decide what to do depending where you are staying walking or taking Grab.
The Express Bus 86 fare from Hanoi Airport to city is $1.5 USD which is 35,000 VND. The travel time from the airport to old quarter is from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
The first bus is starting around 6 am and last one around 8 pm from Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Buses are running every 25 minutes from the airport. It’s easy to find there is a sign BUS STOP. The Bus No 86 is color yellow and it will stop under that sign.
Cheapest Way: Hanoi Airport Bus
The cheapest way is Hanoi airport bus to the city. There are regular buses No 7, 17 and 90. It depends where are you going in Hanoi. Old Quarter with No 17 is the most popular place. But there are different routes like No 7 and No 90 near Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum check them out.
Bus 7 Kim Ma Station
The Bus 7 costs 9000 VND which is 50 cents of USD. The departure starts between 5 am to 11 pm. It runs every 15-30 minutes from Terminal 1 only. It will take more than one hour to get to Kim Ma Bus Station near Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. There is no wifi in the bus.
Bus 17 Long Bien Station
The Bus 17 costs 9000 VND which is 50 cents of USD. The departure is between 5 am and 11 pm. It runs every 15-30 minutes from Terminal 1 only and it will take more than one hour to get to Long Bien Station in Old Quarter which is perfect if you stay in this area. There is no wifi in the bus.
Bus 90 Nhat Tan Bridge and Kim Ma
Bus 90 costs 9000 VND which is 50 cents of USD. The departure is between 5 am and 11 pm. It runs every 15-30 minutes and stops in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. It will take more than one hour to get to Nhat Tan Bridge and Kim Ma near Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. There is no wifi in the bus.
Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter by Airport Shuttle
If you want to choose the option Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter by Airport Shutle. There are a few shuttle buses: Vietjet, Vietnam Airlines, and Jetstar from the Air Companies leaving from the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. You can book them with your airline or in their website. Sometimes you can also buy the ticket in the bus.
From Terminal 2 the shuttles buses are leaving just crossing the taxis. And from Terminal 1 they leave from the parking. They are easy to find. There is no fixed schedule for leaving.
They are running every 30-45 minutes. Airport shuttles fare from Hanoi airport to Old Quarter are 40,000 VND almost $2 USD little bit more expensive than 86 Express Bus. It’s similar than 86 Express Bus. You can ask the driver to drop you near Old Quarter.
Hanoi Airport Taxi to Old Quarter
If you want to go by taxi from Hanoi Airport to Old Quarter is always the easiest option. Since you can find taxis everywhere in the airport. It will cost you around $15 USD which is 350,000 VND. You will have to pay by cash.
If you are bringing so much luggage can be a good option or you travel with a few people. But be careful sometimes they try to scam tourists. So be patient with this as always in the airports!
Best Way from Hanoi Airport to City
If you ask me my opinion which one is the best way from Hanoi airport to city center. I would choose Grab if I’m coming from the airport with a suitcase and Im traveling with someone to share the fare. If Im traveling alone I would choose the 86 Express Bus to Old Quarter.
And from Hanoi to Hanoi airport I would choose a local bus if I have plenty of time and Im in a hurry I would choose Grab since is affordable in Vietnam. But if you are on a budget for sure you can take the local buses 7, 17 and 90 to go from Hanoi airport to city center for just half of dollar.
Private Transportation from Hanoi Airport to Halong Bay
If you are getting to Hanoi but first you prefer to explore Halong Bay. A great option is this private transportation from Hanoi Airport to Halong Bay. It can be great if you don’t have so many days in Vietnam and you prefer comfort.

BEST TIME TO VISIT HANOI
Hanoi has a tropical climate, so the city experiences hot and humid days much of the year. It will be harder to go around and enjoy the places to visit in Hanoi during the summer months of May to early September.
The best time to visit Hanoi is in autumn (mid-September to November) and spring (March and April) when the weather is cooler and pleasant enough.

If you want to use internet connection with your phone. You’ll see kiosks and stalls selling sim cards and they costs up to $8-9 USD. You just have to provide your passport to purchase the sim card as per government regulations.
BUDGET TRAVEL IN VIETNAM
From street foods to the ones in the restaurants, Vietnamese cuisine is like having an adventure on a budget. Average price of a decent meal in restaurants costs less than $9 USD. For breakfast, you can have Pho for just $2 USD or less. Vietnamese Spring rolls or Cha gio can cost less than $1 USD.
