General Facts Fo Guang Shand Monastery
There is no entrance fee to access. It’s opened everyday from 9 am to 6 pm. It’s the largest Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. And the sitting Buddha on the top is the tallest bronze sitting Buddha in the world. You can’t miss visiting this monastery. It’s very new and the Memorial was completed in 2011 with the current eight pagodas and the tallest sitting Buddha.
In our opinion 2-3 hours worth it the visit. You can have a coffee or eating in the restaurants inside the Memorial. To go back to Kaohsiung there are buses leaving every 30-40 minutes to the same points mentioned above in Kaohsiung.
It took us more than 3 hours since the day that we visited there were martial arts exhibition in the entrance. Also there were food stands around the temple behind the pagodas. It was quite busy. But the best part around the bronze sitting Buddha was calm and quiet.
The main problem we found for taking these pictures there were tracks part on the side of the pagodas. What were they doing there everybody were wondering. In my previous visit in 2014 was so clean and the views to the Buddha were perfect. Hope in our next visit we are lucky about this.
