We’ve been in Kuala Lumpur a few times, together and apart, as Kuala Lumpur is one of the easiest ways to go back to the Philippines, our current base. When you travel back in a city like this, sometimes you wonder if there are still any new things to discover.
After all, don’t we as travelers want to always find new plans to do and new things to see, hidden gems in Kuala Lumpur? We definitely needed a fresh Kuala Lumpur experience. Today, you’ll read about our luxury stay in the heart of the city, as we stayed with one of the most reputable luxury hotels in town, the Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur.
Why visit Sheraton Imperial as part of a new Kuala Lumpur Experience? Well, so far, this would be our first 5-star luxury stay in the city, and its definitely interesting to see what the place has to offer. A different view from how we previously seen and experienced Kuala Lumpur.
The hotel is one of the oldest and most established of the Sheraton Hotels in Malaysia. It’s mostly known for business stays, however, it can easily cater to family stays right now, as they offer very competitive prices. One of the things that is best about Sheraton Imperial KL is the location.

Where is Sheraton located? Sheraton is located in the business area of Kuala Lumpur. If you want to get to the city center, it will take 10-15 minutes by bus depending on the traffic. If you are coming from the airport, you will have an hour and a half journey since the airport is 70 km far from the city.
If you’d like to visit the Twin Towers and the Menara Towers while in the city, all these are a mere 20-minute walk from the hotel. Now, we know that most of you are not thinking about walking, so yes, it’s a few minutes cab ride or bus ride to these popular buildings.
You can take KL GO bus which is for free and it will drive you to the main attractions in Kuala Lumpur. The bus stop is next to the hotel, just 3 minutes walking distance.
The atmosphere inside the hotel is one of high class and top of the line service. We love the colors, the total ambiance and how everyone is easily accessible. Very friendly staff. If you are staying here for work, you’ll have an impeccable time connecting with your colleagues online because of the super fast internet.
Oh the relief we felt! We were so happy to finally get a lot of work done, especially since we work online and we work through a lot of stuff, downloading and uploading.
If you are not staying in Sheraton Imperial, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t come to the hotel for a great Kuala Lumpur experience. A few of the most sumptuous dining places in Central Kuala Lumpur is actually in Sheraton Imperial Hotel. We dined in Imperial Restaurant, a restaurant offering authentic Chinese cuisine and Villa Danieli, a gourmet Italian fine dining restaurant.
We are in love with Chinese food. That’s something that we really need to be upfront about. ha! Chinese cuisine is just so good and varied, that whatever country you are staying in, you’re actually tasting the best food that their culture has to offer. And yes, that’s even if you’re not vegan, or if you love to eat vegetarian cuisine.
As we wanted to taste what is the best in the Celestial Court, we asked our lovely waitress to recommend us the best food to have, as first timers in the restaurant. We ordered duck, vegetables, prawns, and fried rice. Quick verdict – 10 out of 10!
The Hong Kong Style Stir Fried Spicy Jumbo Prawn is probably the best dish we have EVER tasted. No exaggeration here. The shrimp and how it was cooked was so tasty, we can’t believe how good the dish was. It was a great recommendation as we partnered the dish with a selection of fresh farm-grown vegetables and Chinese fried rice. Perfect dish to try.
If you come here and will only choose one dish, this is definitely our recommendation. Actually scratch that. We urge you to go to Imperial and REALLY try their Signature Hong Kong Style Roasted Duck with Five Spices. That, or the Hong Kong Style Friend Prawns.
For desserts, we had Chilled Cream of Mango Topped with Vanilla Ice-cream and Combination of Durian Butter Cake with Coconut Gelato partnered with Mojito and Mango Juice for drinks. It was a great Chinese cuisine night!
If you are looking for an Italian fine dining as part of your Kuala Lumpur experience, then you’d really have to see Villa Danieli. For us, it’s not only about the food in this restaurant. First, you’ll have to come here and feel the ambiance of the whole design and architecture.
The restaurant is surrounded by Renaissance paintings, and the whole place screams luxury and class, from the chandeliers, to the colors, to the dim lights, to the big pizza fire, and to the great chefs and waiters.
If you want guidance on your Italian night, then you can easily ask your waiter for the best recommendations. They can definitely help you with choices that matches your taste.
During our dinner here, we ordered New Zealand wine. A classy evening. And yes, I had to drink all our wine orders! Rachel really needs to learn to drink more wine. Maybe in Italy next? haha! We ordered Arugula Salad with Walnuts, Goat Cheese and Balsamic Dressing and Poached Quail Eggs with Saute Spinach and Sliced Fresh Truffle as appetizers.
And for main course, we had Tortellini with Goat Cheese and Mint served with Lamb Ragout and Crispy Artichoke and Sous Vide Lamb Rack Crusted with Pistachios served with Roasted Potato. We ended with delicious desserts, Muffing with ice-cream and strawberries with vanilla ice-cream.
To be totally honest, we spent a big part of our stay in Kuala Lumpur in Sheraton Imperial. Not that we didn’t go out. Despite all the work that we needed to do in our very cozy hotel room, we were able to go around the hotel to marvel at all the hotel’s amenities.
The design and the service is impeccable. We are not going to visit a place without heading out, so with our limited time, we still made sure we went out to meet people!
Meeting locals in our Kuala Lumpur experience
We went out and got to spend time with some of our friends in Kuala Lumpur. We stayed in one of the oldest buildings in the city, where we had the city view on its rooftop, while spending some time with Couchsurfers from various countries. So yes, we did have some amazing social time while we were in the Kuala Lumpur. And yes, we walked back at night, back to our hotel. It was a safe 30-minute walk!
Visit Twin Towers
One of the tallest buildings in the world. The place is very busy and full of tourists. If you are patient, you can get a decent picture. We recommend you to go late in the afternoon. You can get pictures at day time and also at night, with the lights.
There is a show at 7 30 pm in the fountain with music and lights. We personally like the night scene with Twin Towers because of the show, and the beautiful lights surrounding the area.
Visit Batu Caves
The Batu Caves is a Hindu temple outside the city. You have to go by train or by bus. Traveling by local transportation is always good, as it’s great to mix with local people while you’re traveling in their country. There are trains where only women are allowed to sit.
There is a long flight of stairs that you need to take to reach the temple. You can go there to get some quiet and observe the architecture and the local people visiting. It is only during festivals when the area becomes noisy and populated.
If you want to see the KL nightlife, you should go to Bukit Bintang. It’s full of bars and restaurants, and people are a mix of foreigners and locals. Visit especially in the weekends for a very lively night out!
Walking around Little India
Good for more local experience. You can feel the genuine local scene with the colors around, the music and plus great the local food. Prices for food are definitely very affordable in Little India.
Chinatown and central Market
Worth the visit for a quick walk around, or if you want to try more local Chinese food. Central Market is very close to Chinatown and you can also find shops to buy souvenirs, clothes and food.
More about Sheraton
Some of the big perks you get while staying in the hotel is the buffet morning breakfast, where you’ll experience a whole mix of local and international breakfast choices. Hard not find something that suits your taste.
From Nasi Lemak, to Chinese noodles, to delicious pastries, fruits, and cereals, there’s actually SO MUCH FOOD to choose from. Trust us, breakfast this way can actually be tough. How can you turn away so much good food? haha!
We also had a great time in the afternoon, with complimentary wine, beers and cocktails. Even with the good hotel room we had, we brought our work to Sheraton Club Lounge in Level 38 to see the city, drink beer, revel at good afternoon food, (we call this Tapas in Spain).
A nice view of the city, while you drink beer, wine and have a great conversation! Sheraton Imperial KL also have an afternoon tea time where you can enjoy live music, tea, coffee, with cakes, cookies and various high class pastries to choose from.
If you are more of a coffee person, then you’ll definitely love Toastina. We spent one lunch here, tasting their signature pies – we got beef and salmon (my personal favorite!). We had a blast trying various cakes, coffees and smoothies. And if you’re staying here during happy hour, it’s a good spot for some good old beer!
Other amenities in the hotel are the swimming pool, the Shisha area, the 24-hour gym and massage place. There are also computer areas, and more areas around the hotel where you can conduct business – whether in small meetings and big conferences.
If you are looking for a high quality luxury Kuala Lumpur experience, definitely stay with Sheraton Imperial KL. It’s accessible with all the Kuala Lumpur comfort you will ever need.
