1. Sfakianopita

Cheese and honey – now that’s a Greek breakfast we can get behind with. Sfakianopita is a delicious Greek traditional morning meal that serves cheese and honey in a tortilla way. Delicious and not to be missed when having a traditional breakfast in Greece!
2. Koulouri Thessalonikis

Koulouri of Thessaloniki, is the famous street food bread of Greece. These are crunchy bread rings covered with toasted sesame seeds, with a soft and chewy center. Definitely go looking for them in the local streets of Greece. You can enjoy Koulouri with Greek coffee or frappe, and you can add cheese, butter, honey, or jam. Koulouri is perfect for both breakfast and a Greek snack!
3. Yiaourti Me Meli – Greek Yogurt with Honey and Walnuts

Yiaourti me meli even the simplest dishes are the best, and this can be eaten as breakfast, a good snack, and even as a small dessert. The word Yiaourti me meli literally translates to Greek Yogurt with honey and is already very popular across the globe as a healthy snack and breakfast – Greek yogurt is one of the healthiest yogurt choices of many people.
4. Rizogalo / Rice Pudding

If it’s pudding or oatmeal you love having for breakfast, traditional Greek breakfasts have their version as well. Rice pudding the Greek way is the best way to go.
5. Ladenia

Ladenia we feel is one of the most unique of the Greek cuisine and an ode to what Greek food traditionally is. Ladenia is a light bread, comparable to Focaccia bread. Best of all, you’ll need olive oil to make a Ladenia, and Greece is the perfect place to make them!
6. Staka with Eggs

Staka is breakfast in Greek style where you have cream mixed with Greek flour. You usually mixed this with eggs (either fried or poached), and it’s an easy full meal, whether you’re having it for breakfast or lunch.
7. Greek Omelette

Greek style breakfast omelete is easy yet perfect for Greek summer mornings, or honestly, any part of the day you want a healthy snack! Just mix fresh tomatoes, fresh eggs, feta cheese, Greek oregano, and Kalamata olives – and you know the olives are the best in Greece! – and you’re set.
8. Strapatsada / Kagiana

With Greece’s Meditteranean location, there’s just no end to the fresh and delicious tomatoes and mixed with Meditteranean cheeses, it’s easy to whip up a fantastic dish, even from the very early mornings.
Strapatsada is a mix of summer tomatoes, eggs, and soft feta cheese, scrambled. It can also be added on top of toasted bread for that added carbs – and who doesn’t welcome good bread? Perfect as a traditional Greek breakfast but can be eaten any time of the day.
9. Stafyli Gliko / Spoon Sweets

A traditional Greek-style breakfast or snack is having a spoonful of preserved fruits or Stafyli Gliko. Preserved for more than 12 hours, these sweet treats are preserved from their usually unripe state to get a mix of sour and sweetness and can have any flavor that you want.
10. Horiatiki / Traditional Greek Style Salad

If there’s anything we love about Greeks and the Mediterranean cuisine, it’s their salad. We are not kidding you when we say that they definitely are one of the best. Horiatiki is fresh greek salad topped with feta cheese, and not only can we have it for breakfast in Greece, but definitely any time of the day!
11. Paximathia

Greek bread is traditionally eaten in the morning. I think all countries in the Mediterranean would agree. Paximandi is easily found in bakeries in Greece and can be eaten with Feta cheese and marmalade with coffee or juice.
12. Pitas

Greek pies – ah just the Mediterranean signature that we all love. Pitas can be partnered with almost everything from hummus to vegetables to marmalades (if you like), and of course the traditional meet and cheese.
13. Pita Dips

The Greeks are famous for their various pita and dips and it’s okay to start the day or have brunch with some delicious Greek pita dips!
14. Spanakopita

Ahh, Greek spinach pie or Spanakopita for breakfast – anyone disagrees?
15. Eliopsomo / Olive Bread

Traditional hard Greek bread perfect on its own or any marmalade or fruits, and of course Greek coffee for your traditional Grecian breakfast.

Never a bad time to start the morning with fresh fruits, and the Mediterranean always have some really good ones!

17. Baclava

Baklava is a Greek dessert made up of layers of crispy phyllo dough with honey and nuts. Now, will you have this as part of your Greek breakfasts to taste? It’s your choice! People usually have them for desserts, but we love to start some of our mornings sweet, with a shot of really good coffee.
18. Greek Coffee – Traditional Greek Coffee / Ellinikos Kafes

Finally, we arrive at the traditional Greek coffee in the list. Making Greek coffee in the traditional way is usually done by boiling Greek coffee beans with a briki, but adding the sugar after coffee has already been prepared. Boiling Greek coffee beans (usually arabica) is what makes the way different from other coffee which are usually brewed.
Greek coffee is a big part of the traditional way Greeks eat their brekfast and start their mornings. It’s definitely how we started our mornings there!

Espresso Freddo is the version of Greek coffee that is closest to iced coffee. It’s actually one of the most popular ways to drink coffee in Greece. Basically a double espresso, beaten, with some ice cubes. A unique way to start your mornings in Greece, especially in the summer!

If you’re looking at ways to start your morning caffeine-free, or just generally avoiding caffeine, Greek mountain tea is a good way to go!
23. Ariani / Refreshing Greek Yogurt Drink

Greek yogurt is known worldwide as a healthy way to start your mornings, and with some added liquid, or with ready-made yogurt drinks, Ariani can be a good way for you to start your mornings. Let us know if you do end up trying it! We suggest the more natural the Ariani or yogurt drink, the better.
24. Almond Milk

Almond milk is a good alternative if you’re lactose intolerant or possibly not interested in starting your mornings with too much dairy, or want a vegan drink for your morning.
