The cheapest way from Mexico City airport to city center is by metro. You can take the metro from Mexico City airport to city from Metro Line 5 from the Terminal Aerea Station. The metro is running every 5-10 minutes starting from 5 am until midnight (from Monday to Saturday) and from 7 am to midnight (Sunday and holidays).

The metro fare from Mexico City airport to city center is 5 MXN which is less than half $1 USD (free of charge for children up to 5 years old and over 60 years old).
