Gurten Bern Hike Travel Guide
How To Get From Bern to Gurten
There are daily buses and trains going from Zurich and Lucern to Bern. If you drive from Zurich to Bern and from main of the places around will be 1-2 hours by car. I went during my road trip in Switzerland from Interlaken to Bern and it was less than 1 hour driving.
The Gurten Mountain is located in South Bern and you can get from Bern to Gurten to the beginning of the hike walking from city center as I did 40 minutes or by public transportation to The Gurtenbahn’s (funicular). You can also park your car close to the hike.
WHERE TO START

The starting point for the hike will be at Gurtenbahn’s (funicular) station. You can take the funicular we will tell you later the schedule and prices. You can hike Gurten and you can also go by bike. There are a few trails for both hiking and biking.
The Gurten is 858 meters high and you will get the best views of Bern from the top to Aare river and the city of Bern. You will also find other facilities like a hotel, restaurants, a viewing tower and a children’s playground.

You will see many people going upstairs and around the trails everything is well indicated and you will always have the reference of the funicular. You will go up zig zag parallelly to the funicular. You will not get lost!
If you think that you aren’t fit or it’s rainy you can take the funicular. Once you are on the top you can enjoy if you are going with kids since it’s paradise for them. You can also do activities like: downhill biking trail and a summer-toboggan, an open-air art gallery. Of course you can also do more hikes and tails from the top of Gurten.

Do I Recommend Hinging to Gurten in Bern?
Yeah I totally recommend this hike in Bern. If you do the hike and enjoy the views from the top or any other activities especially if you are traveling with kids in Bern. After the hike it would be nice to go down close to the River Aare and enjoying Freibad Marzili (Pool In The River) since they are free of charge and it’s only a few minutes walking distance. It could be a different day than sightseeing in Bern!

BEST TIME TO VISIT SWITZERLAND
Switzerland is beautiful all year round. Timing your travel highly depends on what exactly you want to experience and, to a certain degree, how much cold you can tolerate. There are four seasons in Switzerland, and each one has its pros and cons.
Summer is the most crowded and winter if you are looking for sky resorts. We would say the best time to visit Switzerland is Autumn and Spring can be the least crowded and where you will find the best deals for accommodation.
