First thing we have to say about internet and data connection in Brunei isn’t the best especially if we compare with our countries that we are coming from in Asia. Obviously the best thing you can do to connect online is getting a prepaid sim card in Brunei. It will be efficient and it will allow you to connect anytime.

We recommend you to get your Brunei tourist sim card in the airport. You can get in the kiosks or phone shops. There are only two phone operators in Brunei: DST and Progresif. You need to bring your passport and you need to register the sim card. If you don’t register your sim card it will stop working in a week.

Getting a Brunei sim card is simple and easy. You can do in the Brunei international airport in a phone shop or phone kiosks in the airport. Make sure you are bringing your passport when buying in the airport, pick up service, or in a shop. And you register the sim card otherwise will stop working after a week.

It’s better to purchase your Brunei tourist sim card in the airport. Since it’s easier to check maps and it was great to check internet while we were going to our hotel. Plus prices are the same in the airport than in the city. If you aren’t in a hurry you can wait until get to the city to get your Brunei prepaid card. There are phone shops where to buy your Brunei tourist sim card.

You can get your Brunei sim card in the airport, phone kiosks and phone shops. Just make sure that you present your foreign passport and register. The main operators in Brunei are: DST and Progresif. If you are getting to Brunei by bus from Malaysia you can also get your Brunei tourist sim card in the Bus Station or around the city in kiosks and phone shops to be online if you need.

For this Brunei prepaid sim card is only the comparison with DST and Progresif. The main problem in Brunei to get a sim card you have to pay an annual fee of $25 BND to the government. So it’s better to get a Brunei tourist sim card since you will not have to pay that fee.

DST Brunei, brunei tourist sim card, sim card brunei for tourist, brunei sim card for tourist, best sim card in brunei for tourist

DST Brunei is the largest phone operator in Brunei that’s why is our first option. DST Brunei tourist sim card is the best option if you stay for short time in Brunei as I did less than a week. The Easi Tourist sim card costs $15 BND=$11 USD with 3 GB data and $3 BND credit for local calls and sms and valid 7 days. Make sure you bring your passport and you register.

If you need to top up these are the data packages with DST for $3 BND with 200 MB data valid 3 days. For $5 BND with 400 MB data valid 6 days. And for 30 days you can get for $10 BND with 1 GB data and for $20 BND with 3 GB data.

If you only need data in Brunei you can get Go! Broadband for $30 BND with $10 BND credit and valid 15 days.

Progresif Brunei

Progesif Brunei is the second largest phone operator in Brunei with worst coverage than DST but the packages are cheaper. Progesif Brunei tourist sim card is valid 4 weeks. Progesif Brunei costs $10 BND with 1 GB data, 10 international local calls minutes, 10 international sms and unlimited domestic local calls and sms.

Also for $ 25 BND with unlimited data, 10 international local calls minutes, 10 international sms and unlimited domestic local calls and sms. Remember to bring your passport and register if not your sim card will stop working after a week. With both of these tourist sim cards in Brunei you will avoid paying $25 BND annual fee for sim cards.

If you get a Progresif Brunei sim card is free but you need to top up starting from $10 BND and remember the annual fee $25 BND.

You can get these packages valid 30 days: for $10 BND with 2 GB data, for $25 BND with 5 GB data, for $40 BND with 10 GB data and for $55 BND with 20 GB data. And for $40 BND with 40 GB data and for $85 BND with 80 GB data.

My Brunei Sim Card Conclusion is getting DST Brunei tourist sim card valid 7 days for $15 BND if you are visiting the country short time. In my opinion 3 GB data is enough data for a week since wifi works properly in hotel, hostels and local restaurants. If you stay longer you should go for Progresif because they have better rates but the coverage isn’t so good as DST.

If you prefer to bring Pocket Wifi in Brunei a Hotspot can be the best option. You will avoid changing sim card and just landing in Brunei you will start getting data connection. Read here our full review of Tep Wireless Hotspot with all the details, prices, coverage and how it works.
