FACTS ABOUT TURKEY
An interesting fact about Turkey is that it is listed as a transcontinental country. It means it is located in two different continents: Europe and Asia that’s why it is called Eurasia. Amazing destinations like Istanbul and Cappadocia, great food, friendly people are waiting for you. Turkey is currently the 6th most visited country in the world, and it would be great for you to know where to go and not to go when you’re traveling in Turkey.
WHERE TO GO IN TURKEY
The two most popular places to visit in Turkey are Istanbul and Cappadocia. Istanbul is the most popular city in the country while Cappadocia is a historic region. Both are touristic places and you can’t miss them when visiting Turkey.
ISTANBUL
You can find beautiful Catholic Churches and Islamic Mosques. In the old city the most famous landmarks are Haghia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Museum of Turkish and Islamic Art, Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern, and the Grand Bazaar. In the new district in Taksim Square you will find restaurants and a lot of places for shopping.
You can go around the Grand Bazaar where you will find almost everything that you want to buy and eat. The Grand Bazaar is also good place to exchange your money. Click here to know the exact exchange rate!
CAPPADOCIA
Apart from Istanbul Cappadocia is a dreamy place to visit in Turkey. Cappadocia is popular for the hot air balloons especially during sunrise. You will have to wake up early morning to enjoy the ride. If you want to try the hot air balloon experience prices are affordable £100 for such a cool experience.
After the hot air baloon ride, it is time to explore Goreme. Check the panoramic views of the town and also take a look at the underground city. Goreme Museum and Selime Monastery are places that you can’t miss in Goreme.
WHAT TO AVOID WHEN TRAVELING IN TURKEY
Keeping yourself informed with the current events in Turkey, or any country or city you’re traveling to is very important when you travel. When traveling in Turkey, it’s safer to stick to the touristic places.
It is highly advised to not travel with 10km (six miles) of the Syrian Border, except the city of Kilis. It is also advised to not travel to areas of Sirnak, Kilis (including the city of Kilisy) and Hatay provinces, plus the provinces of Diyarbakir, Tunceli and Hakkari.
We assume that unless you’re a journalist, or in a heavy need for dangerous adventure, you’ll avoid these cities. It is always advised to stay vigilant and be ready to leave in case something is not right.
Travel in Turkey has been consistently growing in the last 2 years so making yourself informed is the best way to keep safe while traveling in Turkey. Avoiding public holidays and demonstration places are highly advised too.
Traveling with vigilance is not only advised in countries like Turkey but for all types of travel, anywhere in the world. Make sure you still let yourself experience the best in life and travel even if you’re keeping yourself safe.

As someone living in a turkey for the past 2 years (most of the time) I can say it’s safe, except maybe in some parts in east close to Syrian border - I would not recommend going to those parts of Turkey, but even there it’s not very dangerous.
