We recently visited Dumaguete, the capital of Negros Oriental. It was our first time to visit the city and there were so many surprises and things to do in Dumaguete we encountered. We were coming from Cebu after visiting Kawasan Falls and we stopped in Dumaguete for a few days before going to Siquijor

We loved Dumaguete City since there are Dumaguete tourist spots, a few local places to eat there and you can visit the market and enjoy its beaches. It is also a quiet, peaceful place. How to get to Dumaguete City from Cebu by Bus Plus Ferry

If you’re traveling to Dumaguete from Cebu. From Mactan International Airport you can get a taxi, Grab or take public transportation to South Bus Terminal. Read here full blog post how to get from Cebu to Dumaguete!

You can take a direct bus (Ceres) from Cebu City South Bus Terminal in Cebu (located close to Elizabeth Mall). Prices of the buses 270 PHP plus 70 PHP for the ferry to Tampi which is 40 minutes by ferry. One more hour by bus to Dumaguete City from Tampi port. The schedule of the buses going direct from Cebu to Dumaguete are starting from 5-6 am first one to 11 pm last one. There daily buses every 1-2 hours and the travel time is around 6 hours.

This bus will ride on the RoRo (a vehicle vessel ship) to reach Negros Oriental.

How to get Dumaguete City from Cebu by Ferry

If you don’t want to ride the bus and want to get on a ferry from Cebu City that goes straight to Dumaguete. You can go on a fast ferry from Cebu Pier which is available daily in the city’s main port terminal.

A tourist class ferry ride  costs 1,600 PHP while a business class ticket costs 1,910 PHP. Boats depart from Cebu City around 9 AM. This ferry ride takes 4 hours plus a stopover around one hour at Tagbilaran City.

How to get to Dumaguete from Siquijor

To get from Dumaguete to Siquijor, you can get to the island through a 1.5-hour ferry ride which costs around 140-170 PHP per person. There are a few boats during the day going to Dumaguete from Siquijor Island.

By Plane From Manila to Dumaguete City

There are two daily direct flights to Dumaguete City from Manila. One in the morning for Cebu Pacific Air and one in the afternoon for Philippines Airlines. Travel time to get to Dumaguete City from Manila is around one hour. Prices are starting from 1000-2000 PHP.

There are also flights from Davao and Cagayan de Oro to Dumaguete.

By Ferry From Manila to Dumaguete City

There is a ferry from Manila to Dumaguete and the travel time is 36 hours. It’s another way but it will take you long time to get to Dumaguete.

How to get to Dumaguete City from the airport

From the airport in Dumaguete you can get a multicab for 10 PHP and it will take 15 minutes since it’s so close to the city. If you are going by tricycle good enough for 3-4 people prices are starting 100 PHP if you are good negotiating if not can be 2-3 times the price since it’s not fixed.

How to get to Dumaguete from Bacolod City

There are buses leaving from South Bus Terminal in Bacolod (Ceres Buses) to Dumaguete City. Th prices are around 300 PHP and it will take you around 6 hours to get to Dumaguete.

How to get to Dumaguete from Dapitan

There are ferries and fast boats going to Dumaguete from Dapitan in Zamboanga del Norte. Prices are around 400 PHP and it will take around 4 hours to reach Dumaguete.

How to get to Dumaguete from Bohol

There are ferries and fast boats from Tagbilaran, in Bohol to Dumaguete City. Prices are around 700-1000 PHP depending if you choose economy or business class. There are two daily fast boats leaving at 9am and noon time.

How to get to Dumaguete City from Apo Island

Jeepneys to Malapatay takes 45 minutes leaving from the market and it costs 25 PHP. Also Ceres Liner is going to Malapatay and it costs 50 PHP. Tell the driver to stop at Malapatay Market. You have to cross the market until you reach the beach where you will sea the boats going to Apo Island.

There are a few options private boat 2000 PHP good for 4 people, 3000 PHP good for 8 people and 3500 PHP for 10 people. The travel time is around 40 minutes to one hour depending of the sea. There are public boats charging 300 PHP per person and 20 PHP for residents in Apo Island. Last boat is leaving to Apo Island around 4 pm so make sure you get on time. First boat is leaving around 8 am!

If you want general information about prices in Apo Island. The admission fee is 100 PHP, a guide will cost around 300 PHP good enough for 4 people. You can also rent snorkeling gear for 100 PHP and life jacket for 200 PHP.

During our trip to Dumaguete, we stayed at Victorias´s Haven. It was a super beautiful and quiet place. There are green areas around and all the comfort that you need will be provided.

It´s located 10 minute away to the city center and 5 minutes away from the port. We loved the style of the colonial house and the breakfast was also really good. There are common areas for playing pool and walking around.
