If there’s a place you must never miss when visiting Cebu, it’s Kawasan Falls, one of the most popular waterfalls in the Philippines. If you are an avid user of Instagram like us, you’ll love Kawasan Falls so much as it is one of the most Instagrammable place in Cebu. It is located in Badian.
The water in Kawasan Falls is turquoise blue. You can swim and relax here in this beautiful waterfalls. You can hike around the area and take nice pictures like we did. You can rent a bamboo raft and go under the waterfall enjoying the experience and taking amazing shots. If you like more adventure, you can also try canyoneering in Kawasan Falls.
How To Get To Kawasan Falls
From Cebu City, you have to ride a bus to Badian. The trip lasts around 3-4 hours depending on the traffic and it costs around 140 pesos. Airconditioned bus is of course little bit more expensive than the non-airconditioned ones.
From Oslob, you can go to Kawasan Falls by riding a bus in Bato, but you will ride a different bus going North to Badian. The trip can last 2-3 hours depending on the waiting time riding the second bus.
If you are staying in Moalboal where you will find amazing beaches, riding a bus going to Badian will take 30-40 minutes only. There are buses stopping by every 15 minutes.
The bus will stop just in front of Matutinao Beach Resort in Badian.
How to get to Kawasan Falls from Badian?
Once you leave the bus, you have to walk following the signs to Kawasan Falls. Everything is well indicated so you will surely not get lost. They also offer guide services. It´s not necessary, but if you want to have a local guiding you around the area, you can have one.
Walking to Kawasan Falls, you can find food stalls where you can get coconut and a few snacks.
After around five minutes of walking, you will finally get to the entrance of Kawasan Falls. The entrance fee is 40 pesos for foreigners and 20 pesos for locals, so Rachel saved half of the entrance.
Before getting to the first waterfall, you have to walk for another 10 minutes. Well we took more time since we stopped a few times to take shots around the area. The water is so blue and we enjoyed the walk. After 10 minutes of walking, you will find the first waterfall and the most popular one. It´s full of people and there are places to eat and to put your belongings in. You can rent a bamboo raft for 500 pesos or around $10 an hour if you want to go under the waterfalls. The guys there will help you.
From the waterfall, you can do two things- taking nice pictures and swimming. The most popular and our favorite spot to take a picture is on the top of the waterfall. You’ll be there in just three minutes and there is a spot where you can see the whole waterfall and even pose for the picture.
If you continue up to the second waterfall, it will take you another 10-minute walk. The place is so beautiful and there are small waterfalls on the way if you feel swimming or taking pictures.
Once you get to the second waterfall, you will notice that it is more quiet than the first one. Of course you can also swim here and rent a bamboo raft. And its allowed to jump from the top of the waterfall! You will see people coming from the top- canyoneering, jumping.
There is one more waterfall, the third one. It can be reached within 15 minutes of walking and the way is little bit steep. Despite of that, it is still a really good place to hike and take pictures since its almost empty. Most of the people just stay in the first and second level.
The third waterfall has a big jumping spot and people from the Canyoneering are setting up a line to jump with the rope like Tarzan. There are a few tables if you want to eat something or just rest.
You can finish the visit in Kawasan Falls within 2-4 hours depending on how much time you want to spend swimming or relaxing there.
Where To Sleep
We stayed at Matutinao Beach Resort which can be found just at the bus stop. It’s a perfect place if you want to sleep close to the waterfalls while having a place where you can find snacks, carenderia and even a church. The place is very quiet at night and it’s a nice place if you want to swim a little bit in the beach.
We enjoyed flying the drone here and you can also hire a guide to do canyoneering or have lunch/dinner. If you will try canyoneering, it’s a good thing that you will be able to have a shower here and also convenient as the bus will stop right there.
