Travel in Singapore Review of 5 Footway Inn Project Bugis by Gamintraveler - Featured

5Footway.inn hostel review is the second installment of our hostel reviews in Singapore. If you haven’t read yet, check out our budget stay with Bunc Hostel, one of the most popular travelers’ inn in Singapore. After one night of stay there, we moved to 5Footway.inn, Project Bugis, around two kilometers from the previous Bunc Hostel.

5Footway.inn is  located in Kampong Glam, near Sultan Mosque. What can easily persuade you to stay here is that the hostel is close to a lot of night life and city attractions, bars of various vibes and sizes, night markets, malls, food places, and other attractions of Singapore like the Muslim temple, the Marina Bay Sands and the Lion. If you are a more active and social type of person, and prefer places of fun to be in very close proximity, then this could be a good choice for you. If I absolutely have to make a choice, I will choose Bunc. It is definitely a good value for price. But you can’t deny that 5Footway.inn has a lot of strengths – we absolutely loved it.

Let’s go to a more detailed experience, shall we? 🙂

5 Footway Inn

5Footway.inn Hostel

Location: Address 10 Aliwal Street Singapore 199903

Price: Rooms start from 100 SGD, to have your own room.

Hostel type: Bunk bedrooms

How to get to 5Footway.inn

Project Bugis is conveniently situated, 5 minutes walking distance, near Nicoll Highway MRT Station (CC5) and Golden Mile Complex, which is a popular terminal for express bus service between Singapore and Malaysia.

Getting to 5Footway.inn from Changi International Airport

By Metro

– Take the East West Line heading towards Metro Station (EW4).
– Transfer to platform B and board the train going towards Joo Koon.
– Alight at Paya Lebar Station (EW8) and transfer to Circle Line (Yellow) heading towards Dhoby Ghaut.
– Follow the overhead bridge and go straight to Beach Road. Cross over to the other side and head left onto Aliwal Street.
– We are on the right side of the street, opposite the open-space carpark.
– The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and costs $2.20 for a single ticket trip, excluding $1 refundable card deposit.

It was really easy to reach 5Footway.inn Hostel. It´s located at walking distances from bars and places to have dinner at night.

First impressions

The surroundings are nice, and the lounge area is definitely somewhere I can comfortably stay for the whole day, especially if I had to do a lot of work –  which was actually the case for us!

The living room is small yet very cozy. Since it´s not a big hostel, you can stay very quiet in the living where you will find comfortable couches. There are also 2 MAC computers available for your use if you need to do a quick research about the area you need to visit, any people you need to contact, stay updated with social media, or like us, if you need to hustle and finish some work.

Facilities, Services and Staff

Free breakfast is also offered! Perfect if you go on a budget, you will find fruits, toast with different jams, cereals and milk. But since they have a separate pantry, you can actually have access and use it any time of the day. There’s a shared fridge, a sink where you can (and should) clean your dishes, a dining place, microwave ovens, bread toasters — definitely really helpful if you’re trying to save money and have simple breakfasts or evening breaks at the hostel.

Our favorite place in the hostel was the coffee machine area, where you can get free coffee tea, Milo, and hot water, 24/7. If you are in a budget, you can heat up your noodles and have coffee any time! There is a terrace where you can stay any time of the day. And if it´s raining there is a space inside to sit down and have coffee, where you can also work, or chat comfortably. Coffee machines, the pantry and dining area, and the shared kitchen and fridge are located separate from the hostel, but to a building next to it. You’ll have secured access through your hotel room key card.

Internet connection in Singapore is really fast. We didn’t have any issues connecting for work, so that’s great news for digital nomads or even just to connect with friends or with the world online.

The colors and the vibe of the hotel is very nice, and the hostel definitely strikes me as trendy, happy. 5Footway.inn Hostel was a nice place to stay in.

You can find information about the city, plus with available maps. The staff will show you different plans to do in Singapore and even give you information on how to leave and which bus you should take if you need go to Malaysia. They will also provide you with full information if you need to leave the hostel and head to Changi airport.

The room

We stayed in a room with modern bunk design in the first floor. Room’s size is good for us. We are two people, so we sleep together, and we are good to spend time on a shared pantry for eating. Rooms all have their personal bathrooms, something important for us. You can have the private access to the toilet all the time, and it’s fully equipped with hot water, free towels, and other toiletries. There is also good wifi connection in the room. The staff will provide you a key card to go have access to your room, the hostel and the shared pantry. You will have to pay $20 deposit for your key card. Remember that if you want to charge your devices, in Singapore they use the English plugs, so you might need to buy an adapter for your device.

Eating and Going around 5Footway.inn

It was easy and fun to walk around the area. There is a Metro Station nearby. Bars and restaurants are 5 minutes walking distance from the hostel. If you are leaving to Malaysia, you can get to the bus station by walking, too. You can walk around Sultan Mosque and also little bit far, to Bugis area where you will find many places for eating, and visiting from morning til night.

Places to visit around 5Footway.inn

In here, you are inside the Muslim area and Malay area in Singapore. We loved walking around this local area.

Bugis Market- 15 minutes walking.

Marina Bay Area- 30 minutes walking.

Experience

Positive and happy vibes. Definitely worth recommending to all you guys!

We got everything that we needed, we had a quite comfortable and fun stay, hostel has friendly staff – the whole vibe is just cozy and happy.

Recommendation

There is nothing we did not like about the hostel and its location. Very accessible for meeting with friends, and is easily accessible for transportation. Also, you can walk around if you have more spare time to watch and enjoy how the city of Lion looks like at night.

Us – we stayed at the lobby and lounge area a lot during our stay in the hostel.

And if you need to ask if we’ll be staying again…

It’s not even a question. 5Footway.inn is definitely an option we will take in case we need to stay in Singapore. With rooms to match your budget, a pantry and 24 hour facilities to help you prepare some food for yourself, good internet with Mac computers available, and close proximity to the fun and active lifestyle of the city, it’s no wonder it’s a popular choice among travelers who are looking for a little bit more comfort and privacy.

So there you go. 2 great options for you to choose from if you’re in a budget and would still like to enjoy traveling in Singapore.

Next stop of reviews, Malaysia. Let us know if you have questions, drop them in the comments and would love to answer them.

Stay free and enjoy traveling the world dear friends. x

Wow, you’re in my country! There are also some hotels near Bugis MRT (Northbridge road and Purvis street) opposite the National Library and some nice architecture around there. Also in Tiong Bahru and one in Serangoon (a hostel) if I remember correctly. Have a nice stay in Singapore 🙂

I’ll be travelling to SG next week and I booked a room here. Are the terrace/living room areas conducive for reading and internet working even at night? Is the place crowded/noisy during evenings?

      Hey Jeff,

The living room is active 24 hours with comfy couch and a couple of computers. And the terrace, It´s also avalaible 24 hours and you will find wifi connection and coffee or tea 24 hours too 🙂 The place was quiet (not many rooms) when we were there and we have no problem for working until late 🙂

Just arrived from my SG tour. Thanks the very informative review. I can relate with and affirm your observations.

I also noticed that the area is relatively quieter than other places in the vicinity . While there are a lot of bars and restaurants around the place, it seemed peaceful and less crowded in the evenings. Or maybe because there weren’t that much people since the SG Night Fest just concluded, and it will be two weeks more before F1.

Anyhow, thanks a lot again for the review!

We are glad that you are enjoying Singapore as we did before 🙂
