Visiting Amazing Mexico: Must Things To Do In Mexico
Hitting the beach
Mexico is well known for its beaches, especially those that lie on the Gulf of Mexico and share the same deep blue waters as those of the Caribbean nations. Beaches like Acapulco have long been famous for their great waters and sand. Acapulco was even frequented by famous people like Frank Sinatra and this is a sure sign that they are great places to visit. Other beaches that are great are Cancun, Tulum and Playa del Carmen.
Try Mexican food
Food plays a big part of the Mexican culture and it is no secret that it is some of the most tasty food that you can get your hands on. My favourite has to be the hot and spicy food from the Yucatan Peninsula. This food is the legacy of the Mayan people and is often pork dishes with spices and spices.
Burritos and tacos are typical examples of this type of cuisine and are favourite all over the world. The food is a thousand times better than the Mexican food that you find in other parts of the world. Don’t forget to take some hot sauce with you too, because this is something that I find very hard to get in other parts of the world and is very cheap in Mexico.
Try Mexican drinks
Mexico has a number of great drinks to try and many of these complement the hot climate. I particularly like agua frescas, which are an extremely refreshing drink made from fresh fruit, water and sugar. There are a number of flavours to try, such as hibiscus flower (known as jamaica) or watermelon (known as sandia). Tequila is another thing that you need to try in Mexico.
You have probably tried it elsewhere in the world, but trust me this is usually the lower quality tequila and is nowhere near as good as the better quality bottles that you can get in Mexico. Technically speaking, tequila needs to be at least 50% agave in order for it to be called tequila when produced in Mexico. The higher the agave content the better and the higher the quality. There is an amazing taste that you get when you try a top shelf tequila for the first time and it a memory that I cherish forever!
Learn more about the history
One of the most fascinating things for me about Mexico is the Aztecs and the Mayans. These two very intricate cultures have left their mark on Mexico and it is very fascinating to learn about them and to visit the ruins of former cities and temples.
Both of these civilisations was very advanced for their respective times and they knew a lot about astronomy, mathematics and many other aspects that still leave historians in awe. Tulum is one great place to visit to learn more about the Mayans. It was once the site of a walled Mayan city and the ruins are located on 12 metre high cliffs on the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
Interestingly the city was one of the last cities inhabited by the Maya people and is well known for its architecture, which features a low step on the outsides of the buildings. The doorways are supported by narrow columns and it is fascinating to see how people like the Maya built such complicated structures with little technology. El Castillo is one of the main attractions here and this stunning 30 metre high stepped pyramid temple is a fascinating look into the way the Mayans worshipped and believed in their gods.
Meeting locals
One of my favourite parts about Mexico is actually the people and once you go you will understand exactly why. I really love visiting because the people are so welcoming and friendly and this is something that you don’t see in many parts of the world.
Although I go there as a tourist they always welcome me and try to help me. As is always the case with visiting any country, learning a few words of the local language helps too, but even if you can’t speak the language the Mexican people will try to help you as best they can. The relaxed nature of the people is also something that always makes me happy to be in Mexico and it will definitely be something that you enjoy too when you visit!
Learning Spanish
The Spanish language is a beautiful one and the Spanish spoken is considered by many to be one of the cleanest and most beautiful versions of Spanish spoken in the world! One of my favourite parts of visiting any country is just sitting somewhere and listening to people talking and Mexico is a great place to soak in the way the locals interact with one another.
As I mentioned before knowing a little Spanish can definitely help you in Mexico and can definitely help to enrich your experience in this beautiful country.
