Albondigas or meatballs in tomato sauce, are a traditional tapas dish eaten across Spain. Albondigas meatballs are coated in an almond sauce and served without the tomatoes in a delightful variant.
22. FABADA ASTRUIANA
Fabada asturiana is a savory, meaty Spanish stew that is ideal for the freezing winter months. Fabada asturiana is made of white beans, pork, chorizo, and saffron is traditionally eaten during lunchtime in Spain.

Cordero Asado is roast lamb that’s often served with potatoes. Cordero asado in Segovia is typically cooked in a wood-fired oven to ensure that the lamb absorbs all the flavors. Cordero asado is made with simple ingredients but remains a mouthwatering dish because of the quality of lamb meat in Segovia. A definite must-try!
25. JUDIONES DE LA GRANJA
Judiones de la granja is popular in Segovia. Judiones can be paired with chorizo and is a staple in Segovian cuisine. Though judiones is not particularly special, this humble meal has won the hearts of tourists and locals alike. Judiones is made of white beans stew with meat and vegetables. It’s great for winter time!
Jamón or cured ham seems to be the most popular Spanish dish. Ham legs were traditionally salted and hung to dry during the long winter months to keep them fresh.
27. PA AMB TOMAQUET
Pa amb tomaquet, one of the most well-known Spanish dishes. It is particularly popular in Catalonia, where it is considered a traditional meal. Pa amb tomaquet is a simple Spanish cuisine that consists of toasted or untoasted bread rubbed with fresh tomato and occasionally garlic, then spiced with olive oil and salt.
28. PATATAS BRAVAS
Patatas bravas, also called as “brave potatoes,” one of Spain’s most popular tapas and a must-try. These are little, fried potato bits with a heavy covering of spicy red sauce. A creamy garlic sauce may be included in some variations. It can served as a tapa fried potatoes with spicy sauce called bravas or with mayonnaise. Rachel loved it so much!
Percebes sometimes known as gooseneck barnacles, are strange claw-like organisms. They grow on jagged rocks in the ocean’s intertidal zone, where crashing waves feed them a regular diet of plankton. Percebes are popular in Galicia and along the Portuguese coast.
30. PINCHOS MORUNOS
Pinchos morunos sometimes known as pinchitos, are beef skewers that resemble kebabs. Pinchos morunos is a Moorish-inspired Spanish meal that’s usually made with pig or chicken.
31. BACALAO AL PIL PIL
Bacalao al Pil Pil is a typical Basque dish that has become popular throughout Spain. Bacalao al Pil Pil is made with just salt cod or bacalao in Spanish, garlic pieces, and olive oil.
32. ENSALADA RUSA (POTATO SALAD)
Ensalada Rusa in Spain is the version of Russian salad. Ensalada rusa is made of beets, potatoes, eggs, and mayonnaise is a cold dish and perfect to have in summer days in Spain.
33. MEDITERRANEAN SALAD
A traditional Mediterranean Salad is one to not miss when you are in Spain. Very fresh and healthy with cucumbers, tomatoes, green bell peppers, onions, olives (of course) and cheese. You can add to the salad some olive oil, vinegar and salt.

Calamari sandwich is one of Rachel´s favorite best food to try in Madrid. Calamari sandwich is fried, salty and with lemon and it´s perfect if you share with cold beer. Prices are around €3-4.
35. SPANISH OMELETTE (TORTILLA ESPAÑOLA)
Tortilla Española is a Spanish omelet consisting just of egg and diced and lightly fried potatoes. Because there is considerable debate over whether a true tortilla Española contains onion, a restaurant will normally state if theirs does or does not. You can get a small tapa or pintxo de tortilla for only €2 or even a whole sandwich for €3-4.
Empanada is a popular Spanish snack that is served as a slice of pie or totally wrapped up as a calzone. Empanadas are one of Spain’s best comfort foods because they are savory, filling, and delicious.
37. MOLLEJA (GIZZARD)
Molleja (Gizzard) was our first time trying this dish in Ibiza cuisine during our trip tothe White Island. The fried molleja (gizzard) had such an amazing taste that it actually became in Rachel’s favorite food in our European trip besides the Cochinillo in Segovia. It’s a good dish that you can partner with bread and alioli. Price for a dish in a local restaurant is around €10-12.
38. BREAD WITH ALIOLI
Bread with alioli is made of garlic and mayonnaise sauce. As appetizer before lunch or dinner, bread with alioli is perfect to eat with olives while waiting for your main course. Rachel loved it so much dipping the bread with alioli sauce. The Bread with alioli is a perfect one in local bars and restaurants for €5-7.
Sobrassada is a raw cured sausage typical Ibiza food and in the Balearic Islands made with ground pork, paprika and salt and other spices. You usually eat sobrassada spreading in bread. Sobrassada is one of the most popular appetizers and prices are around €5-7 in local bars and restaurants. Perfect if you partner with cold beer or wine.
40. BOTIFARRA SAUSAGES
Botifarra is a type of sausage one of the most popular snacks in Spain to try. You can eat botifarra with bread and you can also try a cooked with vegetables potatoes. Botifarra is also a popular souvenir to buy in Spain if you are interested in food of course!
BEST SPANISH FOOD: DESSERTS TO TRY
Churros are a delicious sweet snack made of hot fried dough covered in powdered sugar. They take on a lengthy, spiral shape, making them ideal for on-the-go snacking. These Churros are usually served with hot chocolate for breakfast at winter time with cold weather.
42. SPANISH FLAN
Spanish Flan is always something special dessert. Spanish Flan has a consistency similar to pudding, jelly or custard. Flan is solid enough to stand on its own, yet it melts between your tongue and the roof of your mouth once you put it in your mouth.

Crema Catalana is a must try in Spain. If crème brulee is one of your favorite desserts. Crema catalana is creamy custard covered with caramelized sugar. Crema catalana is a delicious dessert, combine milk, cream, egg yolks, sugar, vanilla, orange peel and cinnamon.
44. ARROZ CON LECHE
Arroz con leche is a Spanish rice dish cooked with milk or water and other spices like cinnamon and raisins. Arroz con leche is sugar or sweetened condensed milk one of the most popular desserts in Spain.
Torrijas is the Spanish version of French toast. Torrijas includes s tale bread slices that are dipped in milk and eggs, then pan-fried and topped with cinnamon sugar or honey.
46. ROSCON DE REYES
Roscon de Reyes is a once a year pastry prepared from an oval-shaped sweet yeasted bread that resembles brioche. Roscon de Reyes is a classic dessert that is offered the night before or the morning of Reyes or Epiphany (one of the most important festivities in Spain) which is celebrated on January 6th.
Ensaimadas is a pastry similar to small croissants made with wheat flour, sugar, eggs and filled with chocolate or cream. Ensaimadas is usually eaten for breakfast or as a snack. With ensaimaida leftovers you can make greixonera dessert.
SPANISH DRINKS TO TRY
Despite the fact that sangria is technically not food, no trip to Spain is complete without a glass or two. Sangria is the most popular drinks in Spain for tourists. Sangria is made of wine, fruits, sugar and rum. Sangria is always served with ice.
Vermut is a Spanish term that means “vermouth.” It’s a fortified wine that’s been aromatized and flavored with a variety of botanicals such as roots, barks, flowers, seeds, herbs, and spices. Vermut is a popular aperitif in Spain.
Cortado is the typical coffee with milk in Spain. Cortado is the most popular way to order coffee in Spain for sure. You will find in bars as cheap as €1-2.
51. ASTURIAN CIDER
Asturian cider is an alcoholic apple cider drink popular in the North of Spain. A natural fermentation method is used to create a crisp, earthy, straw-like drink. Asturian cider is served in a traditional way that locals and tourists love to see.
Carajillo is hot coffee drink shot up with brandy, whisky, or anisette. Carajillo is made by pouring brandy into a freshly brewed glass of coffee at its most basic level, but more elaborate versions call for the alcohol to be partially burned with sugar, cinnamon, coffee beans and lemon rind.
53. LICOR DE HIERBAS (HERB LIQUEURS)
Licor de Hierbas (Herb Liqueurs) is the most popular drink in Spain after a big meal. When you finish your lunch or dinner in Spain, they usually offer a Chupito (shot) in the House. Rachel liked this drink so much and how people usually get a free shot after their meal. They have a variety of herbs liqueurs in Spain. Price is €2-3 but sometimes they will include in the meal price.
