How To Get From Taichung To Taipei

Taichung City is the the second most populous city in Taiwan. It’s just only 170 kilometers far from Taipei the capital of Taiwan. We will write how to get from Taichung to Taipei Tainan by bus, train and private transportation.

BEST TIME TO VISIT TAIPEI

Taipei is located in North Taiwan so the weather is really nice it can be cold in January and February. In Taipei and the weather it’s not so hot like Tainan and Kaohsiung.

The best time to visit Taipei is from November to April when the weather is dry and not so hot the temperature. November to April: The weather is dry and temperature is not so hot. The coldest months are January and February. May to October: The weather is so hot and it’s rainy season. The typhoon season is starting from July to September when is the most rainy season in Taiwan.

How To Get From Taichung To Taipei

HOW TO GET FROM TAICHUNG TO TAIPEI BY TRAIN

If you want to get from Taichung City to Taipei by train. There are two options THSR and TRA the local trains.

Taichung to Taipei High Speed Rail

If you go with THSR the high speed train it will take you 40 minutes to get from Taichung City to Taipei. Taichung to Taipei train fare is around 700 TWD in economy class. The trains are leaving every 20 minutes.

The THSR will be outside the city and to get to city center you will have to get train, bus or a taxi.

Taichung to Taipei Taiwan Railways

If you want to get by local train (TRA) from Taichung to Taipei. It will take 2 hours depending on the train. Taichung to Taipei train fare will cost you around 275-350 TWD. The trains are leaving every 20-30 minutes.

There are trains leaving very often between Taipei and Taichung. And we recommend you to book at least two weeks in advance since sometimes there aren’t available seats.

If you are traveling by train we recommend you to book at least 1-2 weeks in advance. In our experience traveling by bus there is no need to book in advance. Just make sure it’s not peak season Chinese New Year or Festivals in Taichung City and Taipei where you will have to book in advance.

HOW TO GET FROM TAICHUNG FROM TAIPEI BY BUS

If you want to get from Taichung to Taipei by bus. It will take 2 hours and a half. The price is around 250 TWD. And the bus station is close to city center in Taichung and Taipei. We went there by bus and they are so comfortable with wifi connection.

There are buses leaving every 30 minutes or every hour to Taipei from Taichung City. Based in our experience no need to book in advance. Unless there are special dates like Chinese New Year or any other festivals around the area.

GETTING FROM TAICHUNG TO TAIPEI BY PRIVATE CAR, TAXI AND UBER

If you want get by car from Taichung to Taipei. It will take you around two hours. Taichung to Taipei distance is 170 kilometers. It can be a great option if you are traveling with a group.

A taxi will cost around 3000 TWD. It’s not fastest than the train but it’s the most comfortable since you don’t have stops on the way. You can also try to get Uber with similar prices than the taxi.

For accommodation, you can find accommodation prices starting from $20-30 USD depending on how much you want to stretch your budget.
