Hotel Review Hotel Jen Manila - main

Been to 7 continents, 84 countries, and listened to tens of languages all over the world in the last 6 years, but I always find my way back to the Philippines. Read one of the most personal stories I’ve ever written plus a look at one of the most romantic hotels in Manila, Philippines – Hotel Jen Manila, where Rachel and I stayed.

What most people don’t know is that between all the travels and blogging that we do, there have been periods when we had to stay far from each other. These could be because of several reasons –  travel limitations, time constraints, and work focus.  After 5 months of traveling around Russia, Kazakhstan, and the Baltic countries, we finally meet again and decided, this time, that we will travel everywhere together. We are lucky enough that we were able to create a work setup that we can bring anywhere – as long as we stay connected thru the internet. For our first few days of getting back together, we stayed with Hotel Jen Manila. Lux way of starting another journey of our life together! Read our review of Hotel Jen below plus more updates of what’s to come with Gamintraveler.

Where is Hotel Jen Manila located?

Hotel Jen is located in Roxas Boulevard. It’s just 10 kilometers from the International Airport in Manila. Now, one of the trickiest thing is to calculate the time to travel from the airport to Hotel Jen, since traffic can vary depending on the days and time. This city is huge and full of people, so better check Google app or really give ample time in case you have any other plans on the same day.

Hotel Jen is very close to SM Mall of Asia, one of the biggest malls in the Philippines, and around 30 minutes distance from the Makati Business District. This location makes the hotel easily accessible as you are close to the mall and other city attractions. If you had to stay inside the hotel (which was the case for us due to the rainy days), there are great amenities inside that you’ll still have a wonderful time.

First impressions about Hotel Jen Manila

The staff accommodated us  to the Windows by the Bay Bar and they served us a tasty mango juice while we wait to talk to the marketing manager. After traveling in Central Asia and the Middle East, a really fresh drink of mango is a refreshing thing to have! If you haven’t been to the tropics, I think you will be surprised how the mangoes really taste. Felt good to be back in the Philippines!

We also had the chance to meet the Digital Marketing team – Micko and Trish, and had a sumptuous lunch while we talk about travels and MORE travels. ha! Sometimes, you might assume that staying in lux hotels, you won’t have a chance to meet like-minded people, but really, if you take the time and effort, you’ll be surprised at the great conversations you can have. We had a great time reminiscing my 5-month Euro biking trip and brought some inspiration. Looks like Micko is also doing the same trip.Woo-hoo!

Apart from travel convos, we had the chance to talk about Shangri-la Hotels and their upcoming events and how they work with bloggers in inspiring more travelers and enthusiasts to actually start traveling as a passion. Amazing to hear how inspired young people can be today, and really, I personally agree that giving yourself a chance to see the world, even during the years you want to build your career is a very important endeavor that everyone should do. We had an amazing lunch, not only because of the conversation, but more especially because of the tasty food served in Latitude.

Eating and Going Around

Dishes at Hotel Jen Manila.
Filipino cuisine is served in Latitude, alongside Western and other Asian dishes

In Latitude, they served a great variety of Filipino food and Western food. You can choose to eat at the variety-filled buffet served in the restaurant, or choose your own meal from the menu. The Buffet is definitely  lavish – with a range of choices from cheeses, seafood dishes, and a variety of salads. I went for the Latitude Filipino specialty, beef cooked with vegetables and peanut butter sauce — super delish! We really loved the desserts, too especially the chocolate fountain where you can have all the chocolate that you want. Who seriously wouldn’t like that?

Breakfast at Hotel Jen Manila.
Complimentary breakfast served for the customers of Hotel Jen

For a great view, we always have our breakfast at Windows by the Bay. Nothing more fun than eating delicious food with a great view. We had a complete breakfast with fruits, juice, breads and pastries. There were also dishes you can choose from if you are prepared to have a heavier breakfast – good for people planning to have a big morning! There’s also complimentary coffee or tea that you can enjoy from 2-4 pm and wine and drinks are served at Windows by the Bay at from 7-30 to 11 pm.

There is also a Japanese restaurant – Kitsho, where you will be able to try tempura and sushi by Chef Masahiro Mizumoto. There is also the Lobby Lounge, which is the perfect place for a business refreshment. If you are looking to stay in a coffee shop, they have the 24-hour Coffee Time next to the entrance of the hotel, full of cakes, pastries, and a good choice of coffee to keep you up all night!

Fine dining with wine at Windows by the Bay

We had an incredible time with wine and dinner at Windows by the Bay. It’s a good way for us to start a new chapter, plan more blogging and travels and how we will spend should I say the next years together? ha!

Our best experience dining was at Windows by the Bay where we enjoyed a tasty red wine with different kinds of cheese, breads and salami. Food was the best at Hotel Jen – there is no doubt about that! We enjoyed an amazing romantic dinner with an amazing view, which was a perfect way to celebrate. A fun night even if it was rainy and cold outside!

Facilities, Services and Staff at Hotel Jen Manila

Pool at Hotel Jen Manila.

We loved outdoor pools, swimming and the beach in particular, and it was a little sad that it was rainy but we managed to take a few photos of the hotel facilities. The pool is the perfect place to stay around with pool chairs around and we loved the detail that in every pool chair you have your cold water and towel. Good for sunbathing, reading, swimming – whatever you prefer. There is a bar in the pool if you want to have some refreshments or just eat snacks.

If you want to exercise, there is a fully equipped fitness center open 24 hours. No excuses to miss  your daily gym routine! If you feel like having a massage, Manila is so stressful, isn´t it? There are massages treatments available. Ask the friendly staff at Hotel Jen and they will give you the schedule and prices.

There is a free shuttle service to Mall of Asia where you can spend the afternoon like we did. Shops and more shops where you will find almost everything. And well, someone did love going around the mall. Let’s just say it wasn’t me. ha! Just aroud the mall, you can walk to the famous Manila Bay and watch the sunset. Now that’s something we’re both really fond of. Too bad I didn’t have a beer on hand!

With all the personal time we had during our first days together, we of course can’t be out of work. We bring our work with us, so it’s a must that we have a good connection all the time, and that’s something Hotel Manila Jen offers – we were surprised that the connection was really good! You’d be able to download and work on heavy stuff and have clear calls online, which Rachel had to do while we were in the room.

There are meeting rooms if you are staying in the hotel for business or for a company meeting. Smoking is not allowed inside the hotel rooms but there is a dedicated smoking area in case you really need it. The staff were very helpful and friendly (mark of Filipino hospitality) and you can always get what you need and ask any questions in case you need help with anything.

The Room

The room at Hotel Jen Manila.

We stayed in a Deluxe Bayview Room which was quite big and spacious. Two big twin beds joined, and a large desktop which we used as our dedicated area for work. The room has small and comfy chairs to have tea or coffee, big TV and large closet big enough for the two of us. Hotel Jen provided us fruits, chocolates and sodas. The room also has a great view of the city from 18 th floor. If you are coming to Hotel Jen, make sure that you can get the great view for your room!

The bathroom had a tub and all the complementary things that you need, with bathrobes and slippers.
